subject is to the point. i upgraded the stereo in my 85 442 from stock to new cd player a couple months ago, and soon or perhaps immediately after, whenever i use a turn signal, the light starts bright then dims very very low, never blinking. my father thinks something isnt grounded right as a result of me putting in a new stereo. on the stock stereo there was one side that had 3 or so plugs in a line, and that was all for speaker lines and power. in the middle (backside) of the stereo was a small clip with a orange and grey(?) wire. i think the orange was "always hot" but im not sure..the other wire though, the grey is just chillin b/c i didnt need it for anything. i consulted my hayes oldsmobile book and it had a vague wiring description. i wired some of the stuff too tight so its a big ordeal to take the stereo out now to check on it.

problem = ?

much thanks,!

I would try changing the turn signal relay in the fuse box first and see if that cures the problem The wires for the lites aren't located behind the dash

sorry i forgot to mention we already changed the signal relay. i think it was an exact replacement?!

why not remove the radio and disconnect the wiring and see if the flashers work properly then

Do your parking lights works? Because the only wires that I know of in the radio harness that are related would be the dimmer wires. There should be a brown wire that has power when you turn on the parking lights. It would seem like a ground when the lights are off. I've seen people connect this as the radio's ground and blow the fuse.

I was thinking of the dimmer as well but that is associated with the cluster lites and he didn't mention any problem with those

That's true, but the cluster lights are usually on the same circuit as the exterior parking lights.
