turn signals dim and not blinking after new stereo

The gray wire is for illumination.
 
finally got around to taking the seats out so i could get more slack in my wiring for the radio.

long story short when i use a signal it makes a grinding noise and flashes randomly or quickly. this was traced to a yellow "flasher" halfway between the fusebox and the stereo. so i assume it is this flasher that is bad.

the two wires i found left over after putting in a stereo made this century 🙂 was brown and grey. hayes electrical diagram says brown is for "light switch" and grey is for " interior light" ... well they arent connected to anything now (been a few months)

going to buy a new "wagner 323" flasher tomorrow and see if that does the charm. thanks for all the tips and ideas
