Around Christmas time I ordered front and rear sway bars and I just can't wait any longer to put them on. I've never done this before though so I have questions. Starting with the front, I have the assembly figured out but I'm confused as to what order the parts go on. In the UMI provided instructions I'm supposed to attach the end links first, then the frame mounts, and hold off on the grease until the car is on the ground and I'm tightening things up. The frame mounts provided came from Energy Suspension and their instructions said to attach the frame mounts first, add grease, rotate the sway bar inside to disperse the grease, and then attach the end links. So which is the correct order?

Concerning the rear sway bar, it came with no instructions. I noticed the mounting holes in the bar are oblong. Am I supposed to center this thing somehow then? I'm assuming I install this much like the front bar in that the car will be off the ground, I install the bar, and I tighten it up once the car is back on the ground.

Thanks ahead of time.

I would agree with the Energy Suspension directions.

As for the rear bar, it's pretty much a no-brainer. Just use common sense. If you jack up the rear and put jackstands under the axle. it's almost as if the car is on the ground. Also with the holes being oblong or elongated, just center the bar the best you can. Again, use common sense.

when you mount the rear bar you have to let the rear hang, b/c if you put the stands on the axle, it will interfere with the sway bar. As far as the front, there is really no wrong way to put it on. The only thing that might help is putting the jack stands under the control arms so it might be easier to put the links on.

Alright. Thanks for the pointers. I'm gonna try tackling this this afternoon.

Hey guys.

To clarify our instructions vs Energy Suspensions. It's often difficult to get the endlinks on using their method. That doesn't mean it's incorrect, it's just something we noticed. So, we changed our directions to make the hard part go on first then follow up with the easy part.

Often the first endlink goes right on since it's easy to align one thing up. It's the second one that gets you. If the suspension is uneven it can be a real bugger.

And yes, the rear bolts right on. The slots are just to take care of factory tolerances.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks, Ramey. I'm working on it right now but at the moment I'm still wrestling the old nuts off. I'll be sure to say something if I'm having trouble but I think everything has been cleared up. 8)

Re: UMI Sway Bar Help (New Question)

Well I'm finally getting the new front bar all tightened up but I don't know how tight to get the end links. I don't want to compress the bushings too much. :?: :?:

Nevermind. Found it in the instructions.

Well I got back from a test drive an hour or so ago. Thanks to the rusty old end links eating time up, I only have the front bar on at this point. The road conditions and weather weren't much for aggressive driving but the important part is that nothing fell apart, rubbed, squeaked, or scraped and even under the very moderate road testing I was able to give it the new sway bar still made a noticeable improvement. I'm going to try to get the rear bar on tonight too (even though I should be in bed) and I'll be taking the car for a spin to check for any problems. I won't be able to make a really good analysis (a.k.a. have fun with it) until it starts getting warmer out though. Gonna be a while..
