the light might be nice to have but it really didn't light up much. I have a rechargeable head lamp and a rechargeable trouble light in my car just in case

Yeah, no rust. Checked all the connections.

How do they work? I mean as soon as the hood starts opening up it comes on right, so where is the switch?

Yeah, they don't light much but I like things to work correctly

It's a mercury switch inside the hood light. You could test it by testing continuity to the housing (ground) from the power lead. At horizontal, there should be no continuity. Inclined, there should be continuity. Also, check the lead from the car for unswitched +12V.

Im pretty sure the hood light comes on with the head lights unlike the trunk which is a level or mercury switch

It has like a gravity contact in the socket. You can rebuild them by getting an old school lamp pigtail to source the contact/wire end. I have done a few.

I bought a pair of new ones years ago on Ebay I believe for a GM truck since they look like a Gbody light but with a braided ground strap and they light very well, I also mounted a toggle in the engine compartment to turn them on or off since I realized when I get on it while driving they would light up under the hood.

I must correct myself... Yes it is a mercury switch. I was just in the garage and about to put one on my 84, but like the idea of an inline switch
