Re: **UPDATE**Car will start and die immediately need advice

Pulled off the top of the carb and checked the floats to Edelbrocks spec, they are within spec. I dont have an issue with the car once it is running, its getting the car running thats the issue here. Wondering if the starter solenoid maybe shorting out and causing a short in the ignition system when key is switched from START to RUN?

Re: **UPDATE**Car will start and die immediately need advice

New update, tried to start car again, nothing doing with the starter, not even trying to engage. Also noticed that when key is turned to start that the dome light was dimming. Might have drained battery, will try a jump start tomorrow to see if I can get it to turn over.

Re: **UPDATE**Car will start and die immediately need advice

Try hot-wiring it. Run a 10 gauge wire from the distributor (where the "pink" wire connects) to a big alligator clip on the battery. Then you will have a fat 12 volts going to the distributor. If it runs-you know your ignition circuit is at fault.

Re: **UPDATE**Car will start and die immediately need advice

I had the same problem before i now you said you have a new distributor but might what to take off the cap and rotor and check the part that plugs into four wires sorry i forgot the name of the part make sure the part is pluged in and if it is you should replace it i think this should fix your problem. My car would crank on some times then turn off or would just crank.

Re: **UPDATE**Car will start and die immediately need advice

Car started up and ran for 15 seconds today. Pulled the distributor cap off and the entire base of the distributor was flooded with water. Took the distributor out and took the blow dryer to it. Dont know if the pickup up coil and the control module or the coil for that matter are any good any more. Will try to get the timing set again tomorrow and see if I can get it going. Water got in from a bad hood seal that I fixed as well. Doh!! Anywho, if the distributor is fried, Ive got a complete backup to go it. Also, I still believe that my starter is going out and am going to troubleshoot and fix that as well. But the whole water thing should be solved now, so Ill have spark again, just got to get it to turn over to fire.

Distributor was bad due to the water getting in it and shorting everything out. Can salvage the cap and rotor, but the rest of the electronics in it are fried. Swapped in my OEM distributor and she fired right up, just have to set the timing tomorrow and we're good to go. I also fixed the source of the water leak so it doesnt happen again.

Glad you found it. I haven't seen a flooded distributor since my wife drove her Buick through a small pond and then tried to deny it.

yeah, small oversight on my part when fabricating my a/c and heater delete panel. I forgot to seal the portion of the cowl that is directly above the distributor, doh!! Oh well, its fixed now though.
