Used trucks are $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ WTF? Sh*t's for real.

FYI, the service manager at my Chevy dealer told me the rest of the '21s and most of the 2022s are being built without AFM/DOD due to the chip shortage. Not sure if the guy was right but if thats true now would be a great time to buy a new GM truck.
Yes it's true, that's why you get a $50 credit for not having it.

IF they had any good trucks to sell. There's a few AT4's coming in at the GMC dealership but you have to contact them for price. They're hot as heck sellers anyway and now the mark up on them is just plain stupid.

It is true about some features being dropped. Plus, the auto-stop/start feature is going to be gone as well. I would SO give my left nut for those features to be gone. Maybe they can retrofit it and I'll gladly pay THEM $75 to get rid of those two features that I absolutely LOATHE. Although there is a button on the dash that you can turn auto-stop off. I was trying to figure out a way to safety wire it to be OFF with the power coming on instead of automatically being on and you manually would have to turn it off.
If you get a 6.2L it doesn't have auto stop/start at least from what I've ve seen from ordering

There is a huge glut somewhere of partially built trucks awaiting these chips. The manufacturing lines have kept on going ( I haven't seen anything about mass layoffs and shutdowns?). At some point these stockpiled trucks will hit inventory and there will be huge rebates to clear them, I can wait. My selling dealer did contact us about our 2018 Suburban and offered to buy it back for crazy money. Strange times

I saw on the news this morning that GM truck plant in Michigan is only running 1st shift all of next week because of the chip shortage.

I would take the 6.2 over the 5.3. Ive driven both and the 6.2 hauls *ss. GM keeps messing around with the rears and trannys to get better MPG which sucks. My 2013 1500 gets decent milage with the 5.3 and 3:42s but it feels like Im towing a house when I hook up my landscape trailer. GM should offer the 1500s with 3:73s or 4:10s.

My mid-size truck's frame had a hole in it I could place my hand in. Took it to CarMaxx and they gave us $4000. Truck for a 17yr old rust belt truck with allot of miles. There was even a rust hole by the handle of one of the rear doors and the bottom of the tailgate was rotted. The dash had lights on etc. Took the money and ran. Could not have gotten that on Craigslist even in this market. The buy back programs are good if you do not have to replace the vehicle.

Maybe for now until this chip thing gets over with. But rest assured, my truck has the auto start/stop. And I hate that thing. Apparently, it's got some sort of capacitor set up that discharges to start the car instead of continually using the battery. There are conditions it won't kick in, like wheels turned, or if the A/C is on and it's over a certain outside temp, but it always activates when you're not expecting it to. It's really more annoying than anything else.

Worse yet, is the DoD on the newer trucks. With the 2010, I just used a Diablo tuner to piddle with settings and one of the things was to turn off the AFM along with torque management. Can't do that with the newer trucks. It has a completely different setup that's integrated within the PCM. It can be done by a handful of tune companies out there, but not cheaply. They're locking up access to easy tuning with a hand-held.

I just read a piece of news this morning that starting Monday, the Ft. Wayne, Indiana plant and the Sailo, Mexico plant that makes 1500 Silvies and Sierras is shutting down completely for a week. That's besides the Flint plant that makes HD's going to 1 shift. I don't know what Ram and Ford are doing, but I can't see it being much different ATM.

I agree with tkruger that now is a great time to unload a decent used vehicle while the dumping is good if you're not looking to replace right now. And I also agree that waiting this out is going to be fruitful, so if you're waiting for that new truck, or slightly used one, save your $ now, and when the new ones ramp back up, the used prices will plummet, and deals aplenty will abound. The only ones getting a new one are those with deep pockets, no patience, and have no idea what supply and demand does to pricing. They got to be first and will pay dearly for that privilege.

Reading these stories of crazy pricing brings to mind the subprime real estate boom..and subsequent bust of a dozen years ago.

There are going to be a lot of uninformed/misguided people buried in old useless worn-out junk in a few years, IMO, as well as a lot of people buried in clean late-models that they're going to take a beating on at selling/trade time. America's passion for new, newer, newest seems to often outweigh common sense.

There's been a bunch of sub-prime auto lending in recent years too which is expected to collapse at some point too. Seems like this chip shortage and escalating prices should speed that up.

Personally, Ford has been sending me 'offers' to trade in my truck for a new one for years now. They probably send something every month or two. I think they alternate between trade-in offers and recalls 😆 . Mines paid for, I have no complaints on mine and don't see anything on the newer models that I can justify getting into a new payment. But some people just HAVE to have a new car all the time.

Maybe my 6,200 mile 2012 Ford Focus might be worth something....good on gas, peppy for a 4 cylinder, and shares the same gray metalflake paint color as Rktpwrd 's Olds Cool...well, that's about all the good things... 🙂

I did a cursory search on Autotrader and got back this message- "Due to nationwide inventory shortages, we were unable to find matches within 50 miles."

Holy crap grandma!!!!! And this one has 42K on the clock!

And this one only has 66K miles on it. What a deal!
