Used trucks are $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ WTF? Sh*t's for real.

Maybe for now until this chip thing gets over with. But rest assured, my truck has the auto start/stop. And I hate that thing. Apparently, it's got some sort of capacitor set up that discharges to start the car instead of continually using the battery. There are conditions it won't kick in, like wheels turned, or if the A/C is on and it's over a certain outside temp, but it always activates when you're not expecting it to. It's really more annoying than anything else.

Worse yet, is the DoD on the newer trucks. With the 2010, I just used a Diablo tuner to piddle with settings and one of the things was to turn off the AFM along with torque management. Can't do that with the newer trucks. It has a completely different setup that's integrated within the PCM. It can be done by a handful of tune companies out there, but not cheaply. They're locking up access to easy tuning with a hand-held.

I just read a piece of news this morning that starting Monday, the Ft. Wayne, Indiana plant and the Sailo, Mexico plant that makes 1500 Silvies and Sierras is shutting down completely for a week. That's besides the Flint plant that makes HD's going to 1 shift. I don't know what Ram and Ford are doing, but I can't see it being much different ATM.

I agree with tkruger that now is a great time to unload a decent used vehicle while the dumping is good if you're not looking to replace right now. And I also agree that waiting this out is going to be fruitful, so if you're waiting for that new truck, or slightly used one, save your $ now, and when the new ones ramp back up, the used prices will plummet, and deals aplenty will abound. The only ones getting a new one are those with deep pockets, no patience, and have no idea what supply and demand does to pricing. They got to be first and will pay dearly for that privilege.
The DOD/AFM crap is horrible. My 2011 kept fouling plugs and going into the limp mode. They replaced pistons and rings with under 39K on it. I just replaced plugs and wires in January on the 2013 I have now and two plugs were really oil fouled. A few months later they replaced the oil pump. Truck had around 62K on it. Lost oil pressure. Ive been a GM truck guy since the early 90s. This kinds pisses me off. The service manager said if the check engine light comes on again hes going to push for a new motor. When they first did the pump the oil pressure was a constant 40 at idle. Now its dropping to 20 on hot days.

It is true about some features being dropped. Plus, the auto-stop/start feature is going to be gone as well. I would SO give my left nut for those features to be gone. Maybe they can retrofit it and I'll gladly pay THEM $75 to get rid of those two features that I absolutely LOATHE. Although there is a button on the dash that you can turn auto-stop off. I was trying to figure out a way to safety wire it to be OFF with the power coming on instead of automatically being on and you manually would have to turn it off.
Can't speak to your truck but on our '18 f150 (rcsb 5.0) the forscan software could reprogram the auto start/stop to no longer automatically engage as a default (it also had the button.) Might be a gm equivalent that fixes that for you, or, new gm stuff may be more junk that can't be worked on by anyone except a stealership.....

The only reason it's a reasonably good time to buy, is if you're buying new and have a decent trade in. I'm getting 89% of the value back out of my current truck which I bought used, two years ago, and put 41k miles on. That means besides gas and the one brake job I had to do, it's only cost me $110/month to own. That's cheap.

I just did a kbb.com value for private buyer/seller on my 2014 Ram Big Horn. Put in all the options it has, very good condition and I got back as high as $32k. WTF! I did this last year and it was like $25k. If I didn't need the truck for truck stuff relatively regularly, I would sell and buy some sort of cheap transpo...

Ive been working for a well known world wide on/off road company and was told that we have 4000+ units waiting on parts. Build what we can and as the parts come in they get put on.

Must have decent liquidity to be able to sit on a bunch of units that'll be sold at a later date.

It's not too bad here in Canada, but with rust and all, you may have to pay more to have it fixed depending on where you live. The C/K series of Chevy trucks, are pretty much impossible to find that doesn't need some type of rust repair ffs, helps to know somebody or learn it yourself.

I found my Caprice for a little over $1000, and got my Bonneville for $1700. Never had to pay more than $2K so far thankfully. I've seen some ad's being posted at night sometimes too, so a lot of people sleep on deals... Literally.

Im sure they have plenty of cash on hand, but it is claimed they are all going to customers as soon as they are finished.
