Used trucks are $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ WTF? Sh*t's for real.

Back when I first bought our 8.1l a couple months back we got a call from the guy at the dealer we bought it from asking us if we'd be interested in selling it back. I think after the sales contract was finalized they looked and saw they were bringing 15-20k with the relatively low miles we had. They priced it as a plain yukon xl, about 1/4 of that not realizing what they had...

But our mustangs we were offered more than we paid as well, even the ones we had for 6 years.

It's crazy times for sure.

Got a call from the local GMC dealer where I bought my 2020 Denali. He was offering $5K over what I paid for mine to essentially "buy it back."

There's only one problem...wtf am I going to do for a truck? There's like maybe 6 brand new trucks around here and none make it on my desired list.

So I popped onto their website and saw a 2020 Denali, and it's almost EXACTLY like mine down to the color, only difference is it's a 2WD with a 5.3. Mine's a 4WD with 6.2. Everything but the kitchen sink in options on both.

Asking price on their USED truck with 14xxx miles on it? $61,900!!!! Holy friggin' sh*t! That's darn near what the MSRP was for that truck.

I politely declined. I just rolled 2,500 miles on mine and only had it 14 months. But it made me think twice, though. Never bought a new vehicle and over a year later had a chance to make money off the deal by selling it. Although with that 6.2 it's probably drank that much in gas. 🙂

Funny you should bring this up. I'm currently looking for nearly the same truck as you have. But I can't do the short box. Has to be the standard box. I also don't want black or white. Well, that kills about 95% of the trucks available. Ugh. Really didn't want to order one. On the other hand, they are giving nearly what I paid for my current truck 2 years and 42k miles ago... (I bought it used)

Just be careful you don't get one that winds up with a $75 bs credit for missing features that will cost you thousands over the life of the truck...

FYI, the service manager at my Chevy dealer told me the rest of the '21s and most of the 2022s are being built without AFM/DOD due to the chip shortage. Not sure if the guy was right but if thats true now would be a great time to buy a new GM truck.

A lot of them are doing without HD Radio for the same reason. Strange times.

How does that fly with CAFE/mpg regulations? Seems that it would affect mpg at least a little bit, 5-7% according to Wikipedia. If the hard parts in the engine (lifters) are built for the DOD, would not using them help or hurt longevity? Maybe a huge recall to put the DOD chip in when supplies catch up?

IF they had any good trucks to sell. There's a few AT4's coming in at the GMC dealership but you have to contact them for price. They're hot as heck sellers anyway and now the mark up on them is just plain stupid.

It is true about some features being dropped. Plus, the auto-stop/start feature is going to be gone as well. I would SO give my left nut for those features to be gone. Maybe they can retrofit it and I'll gladly pay THEM $75 to get rid of those two features that I absolutely LOATHE. Although there is a button on the dash that you can turn auto-stop off. I was trying to figure out a way to safety wire it to be OFF with the power coming on instead of automatically being on and you manually would have to turn it off.

I'd love to replace my Rainier and I settled on a 18-19 f150 coyote 10 speed 4wd ext cab 6.5 ft bed lariat (so I get heated seats) but I looked and there's only like 10 nationally and 3 are colors besides white or black, plus they are all 35-45k. Like hell I'm paying 40k for a used pickup with 80k miles. I'll fix holes in my frame for that outrageous price.

Everyone is wrong and orders the giant 4dr crew cabs with 5ft beds in white or black these days. Finding a pickup optioned like it's 2001 is a pain in the butt. All I want is v8, a bed I can haul a sheet of plywood in and not hang off the tailgate, green, blue or red, and heated seats since I like my butt to be warm.

GM ruled themselves out when they made the ext cab doors open forward instead of back like God intended on the 14+'s.

It's probably going to be 2023 before new volume returns semi back to normal but I don't think the price is going to drop to what it was because we're seeing about 15% average inflation and most automotive materials are up more than that.
