Sup guys and gals. Need your help. I have a 86 Cutty Salon with a 307 in it and my service engine light came on today. I checked the codes and it was code 22 and 24, throttle pos sensor and vehicle speed sensor. I know where the tps is, but I do not know where the vss is. I think it is either behind the speedo or on the trans. Can anyone help? Thanx.

It's behind the speedo. I forget exactly how it hooks up, but it is right in the area of where the speedo cable hooks up.

The eye screws into the back of the speedometer, and the green box with the connector for the wiring is behind the dash, to the left of the radio (in that general area) There's a 7mm screw holding it in back there.

I'm sure I have one or two of those lying around if you need it, I'll look around for one.

Will a bad one cause the speedo to stop working all together? It was already shaking. It seemed to go at the same time the codes came in.

No, it won't. The speedo only needs the cable to work. I think the speed sensor is for the cruise control. Your cable probably broke.

would a broke cable cause the code, or did I just have a bad day, with the codes and cable?

I would say yes. My speedo happened to stop working one night, and my check engine light came on. I never checked the codes, but when I reseated the cable into the speedometer head, my speedo worked again, and the check engine light was off and I haven't seen it since...

Good looking, fellas. Thanx

Code 22 and 24 still in. I replaced the cable and codes still in. Is it possible that the vss and tps would crap at the same time, or is there a common wire or something btween the 2?

Did you disconnect your battery? The codes will be stored in the computer until you disconnect the battery for 30 sec - 1 minute. Clear the codes and see if they either come back on or stay off. If they come back on you'll know something else is wrong. If they stay off, you've fixed the problem and are chasing a ghost of codes past...
