Anyone here also belong to the 16th Engineer Battalion? First Armored Division? It's hard to believe those were the "good old days" before the war on terror. All we worried about was the Russians on the other side of the Iron Curtain. Thank God we are out of Afghanistan and now we can attend to the new generation of disabled vets from that nightmare. So don't just give lip service. Hire a VET! If there's a young vet in your neighborhood- talk to him or her. Let them know you care. And to all you crusty old vets like me- well done.

Truer words never spoken. I never served (long story), but I tried to serve those who did - and I encourage any of you who have an ability to look for ways to do so too.

When I had my practice we did several things, free of charge. Walk-in appts on short notice to deploying servicemembers where we did a will, documents for a simple springing trust, and being GA set up a waiver of statutory fee to administer the probate should anything go wrong.

Over the years we had several hundred take us up on the help, they could then go do their job with less worries - or so my intent was.

A couple came back and needed a guardianship or conservatorship, which, we also did n/c. Luckily, none needed the probate.

There's actually a program I scratched out in my head I'd like to see about some govt grant funding for, connect supervised students with servicemembers in need... I'm sure it's out there, somewhere.

So, anyways, I always like to challenge anyone who has a profession or trade of some sort to look out for and do something extra for the vets or deployed. Maybe your riding mower or blower helps the spouse clean their yard while their other half is overseas. Or you rehang a shutter.

I used to do that too... biggest response was 'no thanks, we're ok' from younger or 'we don't need charity' from older. But when you lead off with the line 'i know xyz has been ABC... so, we wanted to give back for all we've gotten... let me help with...' considerate things like that work.

We all know vets. Show your appreciation, there's no such thing as a living being who can't do SOMETHING for them.

In memories of my Uncle Frank and Les, Veterans of WW2. Also Mom's Uncle Luke, a WW2 Veteran and my ex BIL Dave, who was a peace keeper.

While I was never in the military, my father was in Vietnam. As I grew up I learned to have a deep respect for our military and what they've done for our country. It's because of them I can do what I want, when I want, where I want, in the language of my choice. English. Thank you all for the freedoms you've given our country.

I was a mechanic, so we could get stationed anywhere there were engines or vehicles that needed repair. Technically I was a Bradley fighting vehicle mechanic. But we were also trained on almost everything wheeled, and cross trained on M1 tanks too.
