Visual Inspection Chassis Bushings

some cars left the factory missing some bushings.....among other things
Really? Is there a story behind this? It looks like I'm missing two on each side in the middle of the frame. I can see the frame pad and the body without any visible bushing. I'll need to do a little more homework and report back after the weekend.

The missing bushings makes the car ride softer because of increased flexing. My Regal was missing 4 lower bushings and the number 5 bushings. All Regals including GNs did not have 4 to 6 lower bushings and the #5s not installed. The GNX is the only Regal with all the body mount bushings installed.

If they were missing parts on the line they just let the car keep going if the part wasn't considered critical. They use to play the Meatloaf song for motivation, 2 out of 3 ain't bad

I am in the process of replacing my body bushings in my 86' Regal as soon as I finish installing a rocker panel, I have pulled two bushings out one on each side from under the rear seat area and both would have passed a visual inspection but the metal sleeve inside is now a pile of rust dust, luckily the frame holes are still fine.
So I personally would replace all of the bushings regardless if they appear to be good since these are 30 year old pieces of rubber that have been subjected to the elements.

An ex GM(the 80's) assembly line worker told me they were under pressure to produce numbers no matter what kind of crap went out the door!

I'm currently replacing my frame. To my surprise my '78 had every bushing, including the "GNX only" bushings. They were all SHOT. I also have 5 broken bolts to remove from the captured nuts. Ughh 🙁

Is there room or access to use penetrating spray to the captive nuts on top of bushings?
