Planning on a carbed 350 Vortec in my 79 MC. Will the stock 305 exhaust manifolds bolt up to the Vortec heads until I can afford headers? Already has true dual exhaust, so it it fits, I may just leave it that way.

They will "bolt up" but they might leak possibly as the vortecs are "D" shaped ports and I don't think the 305s are. Make sure when you get headers you get the ones that will work with D ports (they will say if they do) or you will be forever chasing leaks.

I just have regular headers never knew the difference on the vortec heads, I saw the exhaust ports were a little different, but no leaks for me..

I've used stock SBC manifolds without a problem on vortec heads.

but you might want to get 350 manifolds as i ASSume the 305's will be smaller. one area that the vortecs are not strong in is the exhaust flow, usually you compensate for this with a longer duration exhaust lobe on the cam.

This is good info to know as I am looking for the same heads and trying to find info on vortec heads 96 to 99 I think. Also looking for info on the stock egr hook up on these. Anyone with info or pics. :?:
