nevermind, i give up! im going to just build the motor with the stock vortecs and order custom order a cam to work with my setup.

I just traded my 70 GMC for the 79 El Camino that brought me to this forum. The GMC had Vortec heads on it. It seemed to run fine with nothing more than some detonation under a load or up hills. Well, the new owner called me to let me know that it didnt run for 20 miles when it dropped a couple of valves. It seems that the GMC block may have been decked at one time creating an apparent clearance issue with the valves. The new owner was cool about because I gave him all the old parts to put it back to stock.
