so the biggest pain in the *ss deal with vortec heads is the damn manifolds. i have a set of vortecs and i have looked at getting some sluminum vortec style ones and the bowties that also are vortec style i think. so heres my question, the ports are different on vortecs right? i have heard that this can cause issues with air flow?? so then tell me why most aftermarket vortec style heads come with both manifold bolt patterns? the bowtie heads from gm from what i read are also drilled for both manifolds, so if the normal manifold is not a good match why would they drill them for both? i have also been told i can drill my vortecs to accept the normal manifold. so can i do that rather then dropping 480 on a lower tpi manifold to bolt on tpi or a little over 500 for a stealth ram and fuel rails?? i cant imagine it being that bad of a setup if gm and other companies are putting this stuff out??? i just want to use my existing heads and not spend 500 on a manifold! i wont even have 500 in the long block including the rebuild and then spend 500 on a manifold? any help here would be great! thanks

the intakes are quite a bit less than $500, unless you're going EFI, that i didn't look for.
IIRC the bowtie heads are drilled for both valve cover patterns, not intakes. the intake ports are raised and maybe a bit larger, you really can't just redrill and have the intake work. you can get it to bolt up but the ports won't mate.

sorry i just properly read your post and you are doing EFI. it's a little expensive, but all EFI is, but here's a good almost complete kit http://store.summitracing.com/partd...4294908216+4294901803+400129+115&autoview=sku you do still need the ECM and the wiring harness. to save money you could go with Megasquirt ECMs
there are a couple of companies that make TBI style systems that bolt in place of a carb.
personally i never liked the TPI system as the intake was poorly done and rather peaky. i'd go either multi-port or TBI as they're the most effective of present designs.

cool, they redesigned the heads! the previous versions didn't have that. in that case i would go with the standard configuration intake.

but does that mean i can have normal vortec heads drilled to take a normal old style intake?? that could save me a bunch of cash. i am willing to expand teh ports on the manifold if i need to
