Has anyone used a vortec and made any major power in the build? Is it a good build for a gbody? If so how to get good horsepower out of one?

Not sure what you mean by major power. 400hp easy just the right hyd. roller cam and a fresh set of rods mains and cam bearings and a cylinder hone and new rings. 425-450 a different roller cam and some head porting (just clean up a little on the intake and open up the exhaust the best you can. 450-500 then a stroker kit is for you with the last cam and the 3.75 stroke with the stock bore you have 377 inches and a lot of tq to play with. I have them running from low 13 to high 11s depending on the motor and trans and gearing. You will need some good DR if your doing it right. If you can get a good runner for a little $$$ cash then the stock rebuild kit using stock pistons should be under $150 and a new hyd roller cam for under $250. Standard bore stroker kits off ebay start around $800 for the eagle kits and are complete. You just need to clearance the block and have the heads done up for the GOOD valve springs. This if you are doing most of the work your self.

Very good choice of cams. With a little head porting and a good set of valve springs this cam will do what you want it to do. I would only freshen the vortec block and reuse the stock pistons with the light ring package for those pistons. For some reason those stock vortec internals work very well and its cheap to rebuild. Hone the cylinders and new rings and bearing and a thin head gasket. Reuse the stock roller lifters and a new timing chain and your set. If you want the comp web site has a dyno of several of their roller cams in 350 blocks. That cam was my choice for a real good street and strip cam. Look it up.

About how much horsepower do you think using this cam?
