Amen to that. However, I never see the whole set, inner and outer, offered for sale. $175. does seem a bit pricey though.

I think I'd rather get pieces that are already blacked out than have to paint the bead black. If you say that they look better, I'm all for it. If you get time to snap a picture of it, that would be cool..if not that's okay.

Jack, I will definitely take a pic. I have to get out there and do it, lol.

I purchased the ones off ebay for mine, they were on sale a few months ago for $140 for inners and outers. They are made by a company called repops I will get a part # next time I am at my shop. The Quality is good, I like that they have the round bead although it is smaller than the factory bead. I painted the bead black for the blackout look although I never considered using the F-body ones (would also like to see a pic of what those look like). Only issue I had with them was the mounting holes did not line up so I marked them, drilled some new holes and they fit fine. I will get a pic on Sat. when at the shop and post for everyone......

Due Diligence is the name of the game when dealing with non OE part reproductions. Photos, you bet, and if they don't want to cough up anything better than a lousy tif file, save your money. I always ask these companies at the SEMA show in Las Vegas every year; If it costs $XX.XX dollars to make an almost correct copy, why not spend the extra twelve cents and make a perfect copy.

The answer is usually the same, in a lot of cases these aren't licensed reproductions and therefore they can't legally be perfect replications of the originals. I just went through this with some suppliers a couple of years ago for another part. I thought I could lend some internal input to move the process along for our end user customer but at the end of the day, it was about the licensing fee, $75,000.00 to be exact for each request. I’m no Einstein but a guy would have to sell a lot of pieces of weather-strip to cover that cost.

Repops does a fair job of reproducing parts, some better than others. Let’s face it, if your old pieces are shot and most are, if no one else is making the stuff and these are pretty close, what are you gonna do. Unless they’re so bad they don’t fit, the majority of people looking at the car won’t know the difference.

No, I’m not advocating dropping ones standards and accepting what’s available. I highly recommend pursuing the best quality parts and pieces for your build. Ask my wife, she’ll tell you I have a thirty thousand dollar Malibu wagon that ain’t even driveable yet. The point being, you can either use what’s available and wait for something better, pay the long dollar, if you can find NOS stuff, or do nothing and listen to wind noise and water droplets.

Spend yer money on motor and brakes, not necessarily in that order. …   8)

That seems a little more down to earth. Thanks for the link, Tim.
