i'm getting rid of all the heater and a/c unit on my 83 cutlass.on the driver side of the engine bay at the bottom, can i get rid of all those wires.it seems like most of them where for the hearter and a/c unit.if i get rid of them will i have any problems with the car running or will i run into problems.

The majority of the wires coming out of the large grommet below the HVAC box were for the computer controls. Is your engine still on the computer? I'd assume not since your ripping out the HVAC system so those wires can go.

i forgot to mention that i'm running a chevy 350.but thanks, the wires are coming out today.

I hope you mean PASSENGER side. The driver side harness is pretty important. As for the computer harness you will see that it is seperate from the AC wiring and goes through a big grommet in the firewall. Don't forget to seal it up so water doesn't drain down the firewall and into the car.

I have taken everything I felt I didn't need (or intended on using at this time), snaked it through the firewall and neatly bundled it up with zip ties and hid it behind the dash. Nothing irreversible! Keeps resale value higher!

Put the clippers down!

A key interest in any investment is making wise decisions that protect your investment, and ideally making decisions that have the potential to add value. Long story short, don't eliminate, but hide what you feel isn't necessary, you will never regret spending a little extra time to retain those wires(by hiding them), but It's safe to say at some point you may regret completely removing them.

i'm pretty sure if a parts car would come in handy if i decide to go with a lease heat at some point.i'm keeping all the wire i'm cutting just in case,i can always splice them back in.

PUT THE CLIPPERS DOWN!

Why keep them(cluttering up a shelf somewhere)(cut up and crappy)? why not just do as I suggested and "store" them uncut, neatly bundled up behind your dash. Cutting them off is something I may have done as a teenager, but would never do now! Trust me, like I said, someday you may regret chopping, but will never regret doing it the right way.

Besides, in the hypothetical that you do go to use even one wire of the bunch at some point...at that point you(or anyone) is going to prefer a first rate quality length of your harness, not some repaired second rate connection.
Common sense, it can't be learned! :blam:

Does anyone back on this one or what?
