I would be more worried that it takes about 35 more horsepower to turn a Turbo 400 than a TH350 or 200 metric. That 307 doesn't have a ton of power to spare to be just donating it to drivetrain losses.

35hp may have been a bit optimistic, but I was going from memory. I do remember that the TH 200 was pretty close to the Powerglide in weight and rotating mass. It obviously needs to be modified to handle much power though.
Which is why, if you can eat the cost and find a good builder, the 2004R is the best of both worlds. A better first gear, the same as his 200 and the .68 OD allows decent gearing added. There are a lot of BOP TH400 cores out there, unless he is planning big power, why? As said, the TH250/350 regular or C was the direct swap done many times in place of the weak and troublesome TH200.
