Is it sometimes hard to start? Sometimes fires right up and other times sounds like it's fighting against very advanced timing?
If it does that, I'd look for a badly stretched timing chain and possibly a wiped cam lobe (or two...).
Nope, sits at my gma's as i only have a permit and when it sits for even up to two months, starts up first time you hit the key. I have a holley 3310 on it if that makes any difference.

Leads me to wiped cam lobe(s)...

Time for a compression test.

Bearings usually get louder as the oil gets thinner (warmer). Lifters are usually the opposite.

I also run straight 30 in it. I go to BOCES auto tech. And my teacher told me that straight 30 is too thick and doesnt reach the top end of the block as easy. But when its cold i peg my oil pressure gauge at 60 pounds. Is my oil really too thick?

I don't think that's why it's making noise, no. But straight 30 isn't really what I'd want to run. It's too thick for start up. Straight 30 is more for mowers, etc in warm weather. Use a multi grade oil, like 10w40 or 15w40 or even 10w30. I run chevron 15w40.
