hey guys, this might ve a weird question but i have an open diff woth a 2.29 gear, im loooking for the best or closest way to get an lsd. but im laid off jext week and cant exactly foot the bill, so iv looked into a mini spool or iv been suggested to run atf in my diff... the minispool is sofar somthing i dont want to do because of the over steer ill be seeing in the winter months, help me out, dont want a 1 wheel peel in the winter, gonna get stuck
DO NOT GO SPOOL, for a street car that is. Your probly better off finding a new rear end with some good gears that already has LS instead of putting time and money into a granny rear end. I had a 2.29 once, f%#king pathetic
in the snow though 2.29 gears would work good, it'd be like youre in 2nd gear starting off. If you do find a 2 series ls you can just switch the crown gear and use the same backlash shims which would most likely put the backlash within specs...
later on down the road i do intend on changing the gear up to a 3.11 or somthing like that, with a little more acceleration, but im looking for a quick fix for the one wheel issue, with the snow soon to fall
That is a good deal. Some Blizzak winter tires in the rear will also do wonders. You would regret not biting the bullet and doing gears while you have it apart to install the LS. With the crappy 3 speed you should look for some 3.08s. They would be a great acceleration improvement and still get good mileage etc on the highway and be a drop in with what you have. You might post that you are looking for some on here or have your local salvage yard do a salvage yards computer search. Gears out of an S-10 will also work. Although check before buying some of the S-10 gears are for 28 spline axles and you have 26 spline. Also http://www.car-parts.com or http://www.gbodyparts.com. You could call Brian Weaver from gbody parts he may have something cheap that not listed on his site. Yea adding your location to your user profile is always helpful.
That is a real good deal for an Eaton posi and a 2 series will go down to a 3.08 so you can run the gears you have now with that posi and look around for the gears you want
Where do you live that you'll get stuck with an open diff in the winter? I had my '87 for years with an open diff and 2.56 gears and never once go stuck in the winter.
