My vote goes to 4dr bu with 2dr doors and a 2dr quarter.

The weld line isn't a new roof welded on but rather an entire 2dr quarter welded on.

Only thing that falls apart there is if it was a 4dr roof the frameless windows wouldn't fit since the roof line is different at the windshield.

Maybe it's a 4dr bu with a cutlass roof and 2dr malibu doors? It could be even more of a Frankenstein than we think :O

I don't think it's a 2 dr quarter because I can see an outline of the rear door in front of and above the wheel arch. But that doesn't explain the weld at the bottom of the C pillar.

It does look like it has the outline of a rear 4-dr door, but the dull and faded paint on the 1/4 makes me think otherwise.
Somehow I'm beginning to think it started as a 2-dr Malibu with perhaps a bad roof. The donor roof is probably whatever he was able to find to graft on.
It would be nice for the owner to pop in and disclose what he's done. I think it's potentially different.

On occasion, I see a 4-dr Malibu with a shortened El Camino pickup bed on it. You have to do a double take to realize what it is. It actually looks completely stock paint wise. I'll have to get a picture of it the next time I see it.

Formal roof welded onto the base body. I was half thinking about going the other way with my Cutlass. Still curious what it would look like.

81-82 taillights. The forensic challenge: the coupe and the sedan had different windshield angles. In the second photo, I don't see work along the top of the windshield, yet the coupe door glass has the correct angle.

So would the coupe be the same angle as any roof donor like a Monte, Regal etc.
I am sticking with my first comment donor roof on a 2 door car.

I don't think the windshield matters, when I got my new one it came with a later style mirror mount when I asked why I was told GM used our windshields in trucks after our cars.
