Wet/dry vacuum recommendations?

ShopVac brand vacs at the lower end of the price range have a fusible link on the motor that prevents it from running if the motor gets too hot. It is simply a piece of solder across the contacts. I have one that fell prey to this , and if it happens again, I'll be modifying it to incorporate a fuse holder, since repairing it involves complete disassembly of the power unit. It died the first time in the middle of a remodeling project that filled the filter with a lot of sheetrock dust...best to check/blow out/replace it frequently.

I got a free commercial duty shopvac brand from my work because it "smells hot when it's running". I cracked it open and found the motor fan full of buffer pad wool. Cleaned it out, now have a good heavy duty vac to go along with the light duty one.

I have a guy at work that says he sees shop vacs out on big trash day pretty often, probably melted solder on most of them, but I really don't need any more fixits as side projects.

What brand did you Wind up going with?

I picked up a shopvac brand myself today. I was surprised to see that it actually utilizes a paper bag on the inside of the canister... I may try running it without the paper bag. I recall shop vacs that I owned in the past did not require a paper bag…

The bag is your friend for anything dry.

Ok -- thx.

I just checked out the price online and the cost is around 3.99 per 3-pack. Maybe ill just use the bags - ha.

I guess that I was just surprised to see that it utilized a bag.

We converted or shop vac to take a bag and it is great for keeping the vacuum clean and keeping the vacuum from spewing dust.
