I need to move some engines around. I used to cut down supermarket shopping carts to hold my Pontiac V-8's but they are mostly plastic these days. I tried a Harbor Break dolly but the cheapola wheels lost their bearings almost immediately. I see some at Home Depot and Lowes. Any good? I used to borrow great dollies from a moving guy and they rolled smooth as butter. But he is long gone now. Any idea where movers sourced their heavy duty dollies? If I made my own what company makes those heavy duty swivel wheels?

I just went thru this. I bought some casters from Harbor freight rated at 200lbs each. They couldn't even handle a LS short block and the wheel itself folded over. Bought some from Amazon and not only were they cheaper, but larger and have a much higher weight rating.

Those look nice. I figured at least 4" wheels and 5" is even better. I guess when a single wheel is more expensive than a whole HF dolly, that says it all!

NICE! Did you make the stand or is it that generic engine stand I used to see at swap meets? Then you added real wheels?

I bought a HF welding cart years ago for my MIG welder. The structure was decent, but the wheels sucked. The bearings went bye-bye.

I made it. I have a buddy with a cnc plasma, had him cut out the mounting plates for the block, then just used 1" tubing and gave my son some practice welding it together. Welded the casters on afterwards so it's mobile. Have about $60 total into a pair of them

Jack, this one? I have it too. The wheels have held up but the blue paint just FELL off in big sheets. And the chain for the tank is useless too.

The HF dolly that fell apart I had reinforced with more wood and it is solid across the top. Maybe I can just put better wheels on it and get by. I have a few engines on stands and they are not as mobile as I would like.

i find these on craigslist. people sell them for cheap after they finish their car project. aim for the ones with cast iron wheels. will easily hold a fully loaded small block, olds or etc. put two together with a plank and it will hold a motor and trans package.
