I have been getting my 4.3 Vortec engine together, and have been trying to decide how to fuel it.

At first, I was thinking about going with a 4 barrel intake and a Quadrajet or a 500 cfm Edelbrock carburetor but the more I thought about it, a 2 barrel intake with a Rochester 2GC might be just as good for a whole lot less money invested.

I would like to get this car on the road as a chill driver car, but I am getting a little buyers anxiety over this for some reason...

Really you can't go wrong with any of the options. Do they even make a spreadbore 4.3 intake? Small holley or a two barrel would be plenty for all but the rowdiest NA V6.

You can get an edelbrock pattern with an edelbrock intake (pricy), a quadrajet pattern with a 4 barrel marine intake (still fairly pricy and heavy), or a 2 barrel marine intake (cheapish but still heavy).

My options are further limited because I have the newer Vortec heads with the 8 bolt intake manifold bolts. Only boat engines had vortec heads bolted to carb intakes.

Sounds like you have your choice made for you.

I think I would go with the 2V.

I like the marine Qjet route. Any marine salvage places close to you?

I asked the 2 people I know that would know, and got "Not really but try Thornes Marine 14109574481. He has a lot of stuff." This would be east coast MD, so shipping might be pricey.

I am pretty far from any marine places. I have been looking on ebay some, and there seems to be a small but steady supply of both 2 barrel and 4 barrel intakes. The marine quadrajets are a little sketchy as a lot of them have oddball throttle arms or don't have the part of the arm that hook to the transmission kickdown. A standard quadrajet would be nice though.

This is kind of what I have been leaning towards for a 2 barrel setup.

There's a lot to be said for simplicity. You'll need to figure something different for the choke.

Hopefully it could be converted to electric.
