What did you do to your shop today?

Wow. That is a helluva piece of gear. Congrats!

Space limitations notwithstanding- is there any benefit to keeping the old compressor tank for increased capacity/reduced wear and tear on the new unit?

Not really, as you said space limitations are key to it here. Any other time I’d argue all day long that you can never go wrong with additional storage and volume, but for my application having a large tank just sitting there taking up valuable real estate in the shop isn’t worth the benefits afforded.
It won’t matter much to the new compressor, screws love to run fully loaded all day long so not much wear and tear there.

Rktpwrd I'm definitely jealous. That is a gorgeous setup! I've known about rotary screw compressors for some time but had never dealt with them until I installed this unit at my work. Those are 240 gallon tanks, and a dryer in-between them. This thing is a beast. You'll love it!

Very typical of a lot of the systems and plants that I service and build Shawn, good stuff. If you want to talk big, we have a bakery customer we look after that has a 1050 gallon tank, a 30hp Gardner Denver screw, a 50 hp Sullair screw, and the just added another 75 hp variable drive screw. We’re also quoting on installing a 250 hp Kaeser for use in a beef rendering plant.

Just today alone I tied in a 50hp Kaeser compressor with a huge standalone dryer in a lumber mill, and commissioned them both. My job takes me to the most interesting places.

Currently trying to flog the compressor on Kijiji. Old dryer I’m going to sit on in case this one sh*ts the bed.
Why, in the market for a used compressor?
😁

I am in the market for something 220v and 12cfm or so.

Sounds like this’ll fit your bill perfectly. If you’re serious, make me a reasonable offer and come get it outta my shop. Saves me from having to deal with Kijiji morons.
Let me know as soon as you can, I’ve got one guy that’s semi-interested and wants to come see/hear it on Saturday.

I'll give you $50 if you deliver it. Final offer. 😉

Man, based on your previous post, I've seriously underestimated how many industries use air compressors.

That thing is going to be an animal in a home garage! My employer rents pull-be-hind Sulivan screw compressors. I go to all the same type of places when the industrial ones go down, because they think a smaller compressor will run there whole plant and don't know what they are doing.

So I’ve pretty much got the compressor corner cleaned up and redone now.

New drywall on the lower footings, filled and painted, missing floor tiles installed, posters and signs strategically placed to hide most of the remaining ugly. Dad had some melamine scraps leftover from one of his woodworking projects, so I utilized those to finish off the “shelf” on top of the footings.

Tonight I also installed some more vinyl baseboard to finish off the bottom once the paint was dry. We’re in pretty good shape now, just have to bring home 2 vibration isolator pads from work for the compressor feet on the right hand side. Not because there’ll be any vibration, but to shim the low end of the compressor to account for the slope of the floor and level it up.

Good news on other fronts too, Northernregal has decided to buy my old recip compressor. He should be down sometime on Saturday to pick it up. I also have a sparky that’ll do the job on the side, lined up for Saturday as well. Hopefully we don’t run into any snags and I can get the new unit wired and commissioned.

Then it’ll just be a matter of finding a new place to mount my inline filtration and tyeing back into my piping.

Almost there!
