What did you do to your shop today?

Yup. At first I thought it was a defective unit but I looked into it and it's a known design 'issue' for most new digital tstats.

Finding a thermostat that isn't wifi grid smart learning enabled these days is hard. I just want to turn the heat on and off in the garage!
One of those old school mercury ones everyone had to get rid of would probably work for you.

I thought you were an engineer? Make one.

But, yes - digitization and the internet of things is a f*cking perverted problem.

I mean yeah, I am, but the level of clean sheet/from scratch building I exist in now I'm already overwhelmed lol.

I like the suggestion but I'm going to pass on this challenge. Not today Satan, not today.

IOT is just a PITA.

Funny you mention that, I actually have old mercury tstats from the house that I changed to the digital style, but they don't have an off function and I can't set them below 40F.

It's a tough world out there!

check the Tekmar 518. It's a basic digital t-stat. No WiFi. You probably can't have the set point below 40F, but it'll work colder than that. I have a 519 which looks like exactly the same t-stat except mine came with a slab sensor. And mine definitely did turn on well below 32F. If you want programmable looks like the 521 would work

My camper has one that will turn off. It's actually a mercury tstat. Maybe look for something like that.

Or if you wanna get real simple and crude, wire a switch into the red wire going to an old Merc tstat. Could be an automotive toggle or rocker switch or even a plain light switch. Or just use a Merc tstat and turn off the power to heat source?

Just throwing random ideas out there!

Did some cleaning today and found a few sets of forgotten headers still wrapped up in their boxes, looks like they've been discontinued since I'd gotten them and forgotten em.

One are silver ceramic coated to stuff a sbc into a 1st gen s10.

The others are polished stainless 5.0 fox body.

So now I need to decide whether to keep in case I ever buy one of the cars again, or, debate a price and drag them off to the swap meet in April.

Decisions decisions.

Go dig some more and see if you have any for a 97 Chevy K3500 454 that you're dying to sell dirt cheap.

I took an old Datta liner drive on out of my shop at work today and set it up in the parking lot for summer use. Had to make room in the shop for a new car-o-liner speed rack that's being delivered tomorrow at 9:00am I also set up my old scissor lift outside next to it and parked my Cutlass on it. I was tired I'll get pictures tomorrow
