Greetings Guys; Wow this has to be everyone's favorite subject. I got $.03 or $.04 cents worth. GrandAmMan your car is by far the sweetest shaped of all. Well that was until the aero coupes showed up. Flash back to the 1979-80 Daytona race Buddy Baker put the Robert Yates powered 356 inch Chevy-GrandAm bodyied #28 on the pole, won the Bush Clash & led every lap of the "500" except the last TWO! Ran out of GAS. It was so much faster than the vertical back windowed so called luxury want a be Cadillacs that NASCAR outlawed the Malibu & Grand Am bodies. So being a forum follows functioned typea guy that I am, I'm partial to the three fastest body shapes, Grand Am, Malibu & aero coupe. With honorable mention to the GP (2+2) aero coupes that seem to have few admires. I have wanted to do the Nevada Silver Classic or the South Dakota Sand Hills open road runs for many years (I may be too old now). A road course that I've been fortunate enough to have 5 laps on (Black Hawk Farms), I want more. The many times (10 or 11) that I've run an Auto X. And last but not least the Ole' favorite Drag Racein', I've made around 30 passes total, 20+ with this engine in the last 37 years of ownership. So I'm bias too the max, I want my Automobile to do every thing well I choose my Bronze Brick. Oh I'm still working on gas mileage, so far little success. My solution to better gas mileage is a modern GM Holden Monaro otherwise known as a Pontiac GuTOo. Thanks for havin' me, Ole Bob.
Ps: Someone should buy this Bronze Brick, spread the word guys, Thanks.

Aside from an El Camino, I would say SS Montes are the coolest. They just scream NASCAR. Best of both worlds would be a Choo Choo Customs Elco haha. Anyone on this forum have one? I don't believe I've seen any members that have an original. At least not recently.

As a kid, 3 g body cars in particular stood out:
1) 83-88 Monte Carlo SS - In the late 80s/early 90s, 95% of the gbodies on the road were regals/montes/cutlass/wagons with wire wheel covers, chrome trim, vinyl roofs, bench seats and either brown, green, or tan. So seeing a monte ss with black out trim, 15" aluminum wheels, NASCAR inspired nose was really a head turner.
2) 84-87 Grand National - at the time these were more or less just a magazine car......virtually none existed in my area.....but I loved the story of the legendary turbo v6
3) 85-87 442 - test drive one when I was 16 but couldn't afford it at the time. I liked the fact that it was a sporty version of the cutlass.

My favorite G Body is the body style I have now. '81-'86 Monte Carlo, non-SS. I love the dual, sealed beam headlights and the grille. I don't like the newer style headlights in the '87-'88. I always preferred the "regular" front end over the SS. I can't really explain why. I just like it better. Ironically, the first G Body that I remember driving was an SS. A high school friend of mine's mom had it. My friend had a Regal. We were hanging out at his house one day and his mom and I got to talking about cars. Somehow that led to her offering to let me drive her SS. Of course I didn't get too crazy driving it and she rode with me but I had a blast. A few years later I met another friend who had the '83 Monte Carlo that's in my avatar pic. You can tell from the pic that we did get a little crazy in that car. That primered black Monte Carlo is basically what got me into G Bodies. I still miss that car.

First will always be the GNX. The holy grail of g-bodies at least to me. Next would be my favorite that I can afford, a '78 Malibu 2dr. I've owned three so far, the current one since 1994

Next would be my dad's car a '86 Grand Prix 2+2

What no love for the third generation Monte Carlos? For me it has always been a dark colored 79 Monte Carlo. When I found my black Turbo 80 with the interior I wanted. I had to buy it! I have wanted this car for twenty years, and now I have it. Now I just need to make it go like I want. Some day I am going to build my black cherry 79 I have back to glorious days.

When I was young ( and these cars were near new ) a family friend had a Black 78-80 GP with honeycomb wheels, buckets n console, and t roof. I still recall he took the roof off and took me for a spin. It was so cool !.
He sold that and bought another one. This one was black over gold, buckets and 15" honeycombs from a TA but this one had some HP ( I recall him telling me it had a motor from a gto ). I do remember it burning the tires off at will and 2 black marks in the laneway behind my parents house stayed for a long time. He drove that car for over 20 years until he got sick. I had my second kid at the time and could not even think of buying it. I am sure its still rolling around the GTA somewhere.
To me it was like the "upscale" version of the Bandit car. Still my favorite G hands down.

I really think this is why we like and love thsee cars, they are part of us, growing up and great or first memories. I have had Chevelles and GTOs, even a GS and a couple 442s...but they were cool older cars that I could afford at the time. Now they have all but been priced out of an affordable toy to enjoy. That is why I guess I cling to G-body cars. That and the writing is clearly on the wall...they are the last of the Mohicans, much like most of us that tinker and search for power and fun.

It makes me wonder if the dinosaurs knew that their time was coming to an end?
