I haven't posted for awhile but did find this in the 1979 book I have and most likely there's more information on it, to many pages. Didn't look through the other years 78, 80 but i will.
Its odd that IP refers a harness for a console lamp and courtesy lamp but nothing about a pad.

I‘m For stitch, the 1980 lemans and 1980 grand am have totally different dashes. They look similar but the base lemans has a plastic (vinyl) dash without the stitch ( if memory serves me well), where the grand ams is a rubber material(more leather like). I had rubber dash in my 1980 GP sj and my 1979 grand am has it also. The rubber dash has the fake stitching.

Ok, I'm on board with the stitch. I found even more evidence. I guess I didn't know that they kept the old dash into the 80 Lemans. According to the options list I have for the 80's, the 80 Grand Lemans also used the old style dash. I must have a lot of Bonneville and newer Grand Prix dashes.
About the only way to tell that this for the 1980 model year is that they mention the brushed aluminum style IP panel for the Grand Am

Pictures of what I've always called the 78 dash (The 79 Grand Am had the "custom IP pad stitch")

So, it's a typo: sWitch instead of sTitch?
That seems to be the consensus...I would think the 1979 product manual would say the same thing. But I sure thought the Grand Lemans had the custom stitch in 79 and 80..... Grand Prix too....Guess I neve paid attention to the year....just pulled the good dashes...

According to my Master Parts Catalogue, the I/P stands for "Instrumental Panel". Now , here is where it gets funny...........for 1978 the I/P pad #10006230 shows it fits AF-AG...........which means Grand LeMans and Grand Am............no listing for standard LeMans AD. For 1979, I/P pad #10006230 shows it fit fits A-G...........which are all LeMans, Grand Am, and Grand Prix model. Then for 1980.........it is back to AD-AF which represents LeMans and Grand LeMans...........same part # 10006230. There is no mention of Grand Am or Grand Prix. Clear as mud! LOL
