my the 305 in 86 GP I think the temperature is high . the gauge is showing 210 and when I switch off it tried to diesel switched on and switch off no problem . I think 210 degrees is a little high .
if your running a 195 stat, i would call that within normal allowance and not causing your dieseling concern. verify ignition timing, and base idle speed.

as for the problem 210° is not that hot and would not cause the engine to diesel. You should check to make sure that temperature reading is accurate. There are other reasons that could cause dieseling, it could as simple as a carbon build up.
thanks for the comment which should me greatly and I will post pic of my project an 86 GP in grey with 15x8 old school smoothies. 305 engine 200 4r trans. with the paint that took 3 yrs and 4 months after a two month original time line
