What is with all the old gen bashing?

Roger, dunno if you are refering to a couple threads I made on an A/G Body forum and F-Body forum quite a few years ago... but if not, I used to have a oil filter opener... got it from my Uncle who used it to examine his race engine's oil filters. What I found inside the Frag'em did not impress me at all... reinforced cardboard clean/dirty oil seperator... not exactly a feature Id trust. These days, I have no idea if they fixed the design and they do have "better" ie more expensive ones... Personally, I stick to Purolator... they still have the best filter design for short money. AC Delco used to be a rebadged Purolator... no idea what they are now, but they are not the same anymore.

No, I wasn't referring specifically to your threads, I subscribe to several forums relevant to my cars and other interests, on every car forum I came across lots of threads dissing Fram as POS filters. But I never came across any properly conducted blind comparative testing until I read a copy of CR published in 1984. Thet found fram outperformed many other brands, including Toyota OEM. Which took some weight off their Pro Japanese perception.

Recently I discovered BITOG, a website all about lubricants, tires, filters and other auto related subjects.
From some thread I read it seems Fram did indeed drop the quality control ball a while back. But they recognised they had a problem and brought themselves back up to standard. If only The domestic automakers had done the same thing, or indeed the British makers years ago. Britains biggest car makers are now Nissan, Toyota and Honda. They seem to make cars that match their products made in Japan too.

I guess I've wandered way off topic from the OP, but I think the basic bashing something without proper justification still applies.

Roger.
