What thermostat?

It's gonna be a high of like 25 here for the next couple days, so I'm gonna grab a 195 and try it out today or tomorrow.
 
In an emergency, tap water is fine. No harm done. You just can't leave it in too long. Aluminum is a funny metal- strong and corrosion resistant but low on the galvanic scale. So other more noble metals will attack it in the presence of an electrolyte (tap water). Any form of copper is especially bad. If you have ever tried to remove a brass bung from an aluminum manifold you know what I am speaking of.

I don't know why but the current available thermostats suck.
Look at where they come from and you will have your answer. They are probably from overseas but I've had some luck with the stainless steel thermostats from Summit.

Stainless?!? I gotta check that out.
 
Jared- thanks for that. The frame is stainless but the actual mechanism is still brass. Even my outboard motor stats are built that way. I wonder why that is?
