Hello All,
I have had my 1985 Grand Prix since I was 15 so 13 years now. I have always had plans to fix it up since it was my first car. I always knew the thing had potential so I have never considered selling it. It has been in storage for the last 9 years and I still haven't begun working on it besides one weekend about 8 years ago to assess the condition or things. Right when I put it in storage I bought a parts car and took off everything that was better than mine and or easy to snag. I had a lot more parts than I do now buy I moved so some went to the curb. I still have the parts that are better than what is on the car now so I am not out too much. The parts car was a NON-VINYL top car so I took everything off of it that I would need down the road to convert mine to a NON-VINYL top car i.e. windows and trim. It has the usual G-Body rust behind the stainless steel trim on the bottom but only 2 holes in the whole car. The largest hole is behind the trim on driver rear quarter and the other in front of the rear quarter. The largest size is the size of a quarter and the smallest the diameter of pencil. The rear frame is really quite nice still. The interior is pretty good but the best interior piece is definitely the dash...crack free. It has a 305 w/over216k but ran good when I put it away and still does at least when I start it once or twice every year to idle. Trans is a TH350.

My dilemma is I have no where good to work on the vehicle in addition to lack of space my interests have changed over time. So what do you guys think I should do? Be as honest as you want e.g. “sell the clunker!”, “part it out!” or “keep it because you will regret selling your first car!” or anything else. I am clueless as to what a fair price would be for selling it…please chime in.

Below is a link to some pictures of the car.

if you honestly dont feel u will ever do much with it i would part it out and make some money out of it. that could always fund your new interest. there is lots of people on here that will buy parts from ya

Car looks clean! I would just fix it and sell the rest of the parts not used.. 😀

I kept my second car for 22 years before I had the space or the money to work on it. If you feel you might want to have it someday and fix it up, then keep it? It can't be worth that much now. How much is it costing you to store? But if you're looking for an excuse to ditch it, you've gotta do what makes you happy.

So if I was to start advertising this in some classifieds to sell it what should I ask for the car and all parts. I am thinking in order to get any sort of money I am going to have to find someone that wants to put forth the effort to fix it up and finds value in all of the parts. Any suggestions on where to start price wise and guesses on what I can realistically get out of everything are welcome.

It kinda makes me sad to see one fall to a scrap yard considering they are growing scarce these days, so I would vote to fix it up or let it go to someone who will. However, if you do part it out I do need a few things for my car, so would appreciate it if you let me know

Another thing is that they aren't as popular as SOME other models  I bought a 81 LJ just as clean as yours for 500 bucks..As scarce as they are and the market it being what it is you may not get too much.. 🙁 Again i vote to keep it, restore it and enjoy it. But if you decide to sell it and the parts off i am looking for a few parts as well. Pm me if your willing to sell some parts.

The GP is the stepchild of the Gbody world, so you most likely won't get a whole lot for it, so I say do one of 2 things.

1) keep it, and get to it one day, if you can afford to store it.

2) sell it to someone who loves Grand Prix and will bring it back to life. Negotiate on a price that they can afford to buy it for. And let your emotional attachment to the car be satisfied with it being saved.
In my experience when it comes to the GPs, unless its a 2+2 or a T-Top car, they just don't sell for much.
Just my 2c bro, but good luck with which ever path you choose.

Honestly I gotta disagree with you guys, after I got my car I prefer it to the cutlass or even monte. I also see some on craigslist going for 2g or higher, of course in running shape. Maybe others prefer other styles but I wouldn't call the gp the step child. Mine gets lots of attention and compliments, and every once in a while someone trying to buy it off me.

Don't misunderstand me, I own 2 Grand Prixs, and am looking at no.3. I prefer them to all other Gbodys. And people offer to buy my Monte Carlo all time, until I tell them I don't own a Chevy. Thats what I meant, I see a comparable Monte or Regal sell for half again what a GP does. It is what it is. I'm not complaining tho, that's how I got the two I have.
