I've aquired a 1980 Regal..set up for a SBC. Basically the last motor was blown and I got what was left in pieces. Here is what im working with: 1980 350 4 bolt stock short block...Dart Iron eagle heads...200cc intake runners,64cc chambers,2.02/160 with a max .520 spring lift. 1.5 summit roller rockers, Weiand Stealth intake, and a Demon 650 dbl. pumper. From what i understand, the last engine was pretty cammed up but i cannot locate the builder. Also has a 350 turbo trans..I'm at least trying to get it together for now so it can be driven to storage and i'll tear it down in the winter and do it right. Have no idea of the rear gear but whoever did this build spared no expense.

Put it together once and be done with it. If it were me I would put a roller cam in it. No cam break in, better engine vacuum, all around better running engine.

I would go with a cam in a 242 range @.050 and 570ish lift. I like a 112 lobe sep. Would also need a good stall converter about 2500rpm. Should be a good runner.

@hurst1979olds... ok, maybe i am wrong here, and i probably am, cause i dont know sh*t about cams, but he has 520 springs, so shouldnt he not go over 520 with the cam lift? i thought springs dictate how much lift you can go with for a cam... ie: 520 springs, 520 lift cam... cause i am about to buy a new cam for my 350 and the etec200 heads have 570 springs so i have been looking for a cam at or under 570... if i am wrong, please explain why, and what dictates how much lift can be used... i watched a video on youtube, or well i should say i tried to watch a video on youtube about cams n lift n heads but my daughter decided daddy was a jungle gym so i missed most of the video, but i thought i understood what was said... guess i was wrong... lol

lilbowtie..i understand this..i am on a budget..want to put the motor together to be able to drive it..move it to storage in the fall...etc. The springs on it are hardly run..engine had a bottom end failure. I just want to get it to run for now as i am going to take all winter to do it right.

I don't understand the question? Maybe its just me tho, if the car just needs to run, and is then being torn down, put any cam you want in it, put a stock cam in it, its not really relivant. If the cam is staying in and your asking for help selecting one then we need more info to make an intelligent suggestion.
Intended usage
Compression
Converter
Gear
And we can go from there.....
If its a stone stock untouched 1980 short block then we don't have much compression to work with and a big-ish 200cc head is not going to match the cam your compression dictates you use.

I understand what you want to do, but like bygddy and I said previously what are you expecting out of this car? The combo has to work together. As far as the springs go they need to be compatible with the cam. Install height seat pressure - pressure at cams spec lift - coil bind - roller - flat tappet - not to say your springs aren't compatible but you can take a cam out pretty easy with wrong springs

Got ya. Thanks for your help gentleman... I really have no choice but to put her in storage and do the motor as a project. I too like to do things once the right way.
