The car has a 200r4 now... what would be the easiest swap a th350, th 400 or 700r. I know the crossmember would have to b changed and maybe the driveshaft cut.... Lookn to put sbc zz4 or zz454. what do you think wold b the best combo.

Why not keep the 200r4 with the over drive? TH350 is the same size as the 200r4, so you won't have to change driveshaft or cross member. You will for both the 700 and 400.

While I don't have experience with them in person, everything I have read says they can be just a tough as a 350 or 700. For the money it would cost you to buy a different trans, you could have a shop do some upgrades on the 200r4. People run them on built turbo regals all of the time. It will likely be the next transmission in my 472ci Camaro.

It will handle the ZZ4 no problem. A ZZ4 isn't anything special anymore. I may stand corrected, but a ZZ4 350 is rated at 350 horse/375tq ??

400/400 is the norm in SBC's today. The big block will pose a problem for the 200-4r though. I know a person can buy a "built" 200 for around $1200, rated for 700/700.

grand nationals run 200r4 and I`ve seen them hold together in low 10 high 9 second cars. I think the trans in the buicks have a different valve body but that can be changed.
700r4s are junk in my experience with them.

From all my research I did on the net a few years ago. I learned/read that the 2004R out of the turbo Buicks and Monte SS' are the best ones to use if you want OD. The gearing is almost perfect so there is no huge drop in rpm when the trans shifts. They can both be built to handle a good amount of power. For an everyday driver they are more than adequate. The turbo trans is just a notch above the monte ss trans. But the monte trans can be built just as good as the turbo trans. Although a good rebuild will cost a pretty penny. You get what you pay for and it's worth it to go to someone who knows about 2004R's.

If you go with a new 2004R make sure the the trans code is either BRF(turbo), or CZF (SS). Look at the valve body if possible. There are usually pink or purple paint codes on the side of VB. Although that is not set in stone. 8)

While it may be more expensive initially, the TH200 4R can potentially save you money. The overdrive helps cut down fuel useage while the lower RPM's will lessen wear at highway speeds to some degree as well as helping it run cooler. Run it with a properly set up Quadrajet and HEI and you will be surprised just how driveable the car is.

if your cars gonna have high gearing in the rear, your gonna want overdrive. trust me gas has made me broke lol
