What's it worth?

sh*t dude if its an '80 442 I'd buy it and put it up on a shelf somewhere as a candidate for a full frame-off someday. seriously. I dunno how many of those are left, but there weren't many to begin with.

man, I can find nothing on '80 442/w30 production numbers or anything. figures. even 442.com is useless for '78-'80 info.

What I can find is that it wouldn't have had a 350, and wouldn't have had the lightning rods. hard to tell really but it looks like it might've just been a trim option on top of the calais model. what i've read suggests that it could have any of the std. engine options for '80, so check the vin to see what it had. probably a 260 or 305.

I have seen the '80 W-19 option with the goofy aluminum trim around the roof, but never seen a real '80 442/w30 in the flesh so to speak.

whats it worth? dunno. right now not as much as a '79 hurst olds or any GN or even MCSS probably, the demand isn't as high for them. doesn't mean it isn't worth it as you say. who knows in a few years? rare is rare any way you slice it.

btw, saw that page that black/gold '80 came from, it probably should have had the same w-30 decals as the '79 h/o. floor shifter, and should be badged on the doors as a calais.

kinda unrelated but funny story, before I really knew what I was looking at, I looked at and test drove a car that was being sold as an '80 H/O. Had the quad headlamps, but the white/gold H/O paint scheme, gauges, dual-gate shifter, t-tops, h/o badges and had an olds-style wing on the trunk. The car was in need of more work than I could give it at the time (this was like '95) and they wanted way too much for it for the shape it was in so I passed. Just reminded me of that. I think someone either painted up and optioned an '80 or put an '80 header panel on it. The guy said it had a 403 in it "yeah that was the only year they did that!" wish I knew then what I knew now heh lol.

886 442s were built in 1980, 346 of those were gold over white..
The rest were gold over black.

To most of the world, it isn't going to be worth much, a little more than a plain Cutlass 2 door of the same year/condition, but not much right now. However, there is probably someone out there who wants one bad and would pay decent money to get it just because they have been looking for a long time. I'd probably pay good money for an engine-less Datsun PL510, but I have looked for years to find one and have had no real success. Most people wouldn't pay $100 for one. It's all in how much you are willing to sell it for and how much the buyer is willing to pay.

Linda Vaughn (Miss Hurst) sold her 1979 Hurst/Olds at the 2007 Scottsdale
Barrett-Jackson auction for $59,000.It'll end up in a museum probably.
Ok,I know,I know.'79s aren't worth much. But any H/O or 442 will be worth more down the line than a regular Cutlass. If I could afford it,I'd buy one to restore.

Where is "Here" and how much does he want for it? If it is a 2 door 1968-1973 Datsun 510, not the later HL 510 of the late 70's, I would want it. I would swap in the KA24DE out of an S13 240sx with a set of side draft carbs, a Subaru R160 410 geared posi diff, ( it has 4 wheel independant suspension), 280zx brakes and the 240's 5 speed and have a real fun little car! 2000 lbs, 50/50 weight distribution and plenty of interchange mean I could build the shitbox of my sickest fantasies to enter the GRM $2008 challenge.

WoW. I wonder what an autographed pair of her panties would be worth?? 😀

Seriously, sometimes it is just ridiculous to hear of the fools out there and how they part ways with their money. A '79 H/O might be worth $10-12k in minty condition- Because it was Miss Hurst's makes it worth $47k more? I really don't think so- she isn't anyone special. One of James Brown's Lincolns only fetched like $16k a few years ago.
