i just got a 84 gp with a stock 350 and stock quadrajunk carb. yesterday it ran, but i almost had to floor it to get it to get home. it smelled like bad gas too. then today it ran outta gas so i put a few gallons in the tank and now it wont start! im thinkin the carb is bad being that it stayed started but i had to damn near floor it to get it to go. what is this? all responses will be appreciated.

The carb is probably gummed up on the inside from sitting considering you say it smelled like bad gas. I would give the carb a rebuild or cleaning and change the fuel filter if applicable. If everything is stuck wide open it is instantly flooding when you are attempting to crank it.

its seems like an easy fix. the car aint in bad shape at all. t-top and a stick n the floor!

thanks mr larry. that sounds about right. i have a holly 750 lying around. will it fit on the stock intake or would i need an aftermarket intake?

that malibu is mean too

i took the air filter off and its an edelbrock...

I agree with Mr. Larry. The only concern you have with the carb is 2bbl VS. 4bbl. Other than that, you should be fine.

what do you mean by "stock 350"? that car did not come with a 350 engine.
most likely a holley 350 is too large, besides, a q-jet is a much better carb. you just have to put a little time into it.
i think you have a few problems in the fuel system. first, the fuel filter is plugged. also, you might have a bunch of crap in the tank that gets picked up at low levels.
i've found that the fuel drains easily if you disconnect the line where it comes out of the frame, in the engine compartment. i'd drain the fuel (you might even want to jack up the rear) and rebuild the carb
