Wheel Fitment Guide

ok need some opinions before i buy some wheels.i have a 1980 cutlass i am using a 275-60-15 on factory cutlass 15x7 wheels with 4,25 bs and a 1'' spacer the passenger side rubs on the quarter the drivers side is fine.(the rearend is shifted to the pass side of the car about .250. ok so several things i am looking at here first this tire is too wide for this wheel and i think it makes the sidewall width wider.second i actually machined the spacers to .750 thick and put them back on tire is close to frame on drivers side but i think that would be ok.so this is what i think i need to do i think i need to use a 15x8 wheel with a 3.5bs(4.25 bs with .750 spacer seems to work)so i am thinking using a wider wheel will narrow my sidewall and in cojuction with the 3.5 bs is my best fit with this size tire. so anyway coy sells a c5 wheel 15x8.5 with a 3.5 bs i think it will work .what do you guys think?

Will 255/70/15 fit the rear of a 79 Grand Prix with stock height? The wheels will have a 3.5bs. Im worried they will rub on the fender.

Hi guys, I am at a point where I'd like to get some new rubber for my 78. I have 4 x 16x8 4" backspace wheels. I also have 2 x identical 16x9 4.5" backspace wheels. I was about to pull the trigger on some tires. I was thinking 225/55/R16 for the front, seems like it would fit. Although was a bit worried with the 8" rims.

I'm not sure what to do on the back... I was wondering if a 245/50/R16 would fit on the 16x8's without mods?? I also have these 16x9 wheels sitting here. They have 225/50's on them, so I figured I'd try them on the rear to see what I get. I get a little over an inch of clearance to the frame. Everything else seems to clear. Hard to tell what will fit, not sure what would be the best combination..

What do you guys recommend I do with the tires and wheel combination I have? The easy way out is to get all 225's on the 16x8's but wider is better right?

Also what tires do you guys use? I know all about the speed ratings, and load indexes. What brands, types?? (summer use)

Neller what kind of backspacing is on the 16x9?

I still cant figure out why some seem to have trouble fitting a 15x8 wheel on the rear of their g-bodies with a 4.5BS, but a 17x8 wheel with the same BS seems to fit just fine. Heck I'm still perplexed that some are able to run an 18x8 wheel with a 4.5BS in the front but a 15 inch wheel with the same BS doesnt seem to work.

Fitment depends a lot on tires, too. The sidewall bulge on a 60 or 70 series tire that you typically see on a 15 inch wheel will be very close to the frame rail, even with a 4" BS wheel. The 275/60 T/A radials I have in my Camino are 3/8 to 1/2" from the frame on a 4" BS wheel. If you go to a 17 or 18 inch wheel with a 40/45/50 series tire, the sidewall won't bulge as much, so a 4.5" BS wheel may clear.

I have decided to go for the black spoked Boss 338 wheels. 18x8 4.5bs front , but 18x9.5 5bs rear tends to be a problem after what I read.
I see there's a package for 18x8 and 18x9 on ebay as well, same backspacing. Will those fit 81' Cutlass Supreme without modifications? I will run 245/40 tires front but not sure for the rear. I want the staggered look, just don't want to notch the frame... I'm tired of welding now

Will a 17x9.5 wheel with 5.25 inch backspace and 1.6 offset fit on the rear of a g body? I'm wanting at least a 275/45/17 on the back.

I have a 17x9 rears with 275/45/17 on my malibu and the clearance is a bit tight on the inside with occasional rub on the inside frame when turning tight on inclines.
