And directly ties the change/cause to government fines.

Yeah, a reality unfortunately, expect the same from GM and Ford. The GT Mustang lost 10hp. At least Dodge upped the power to 807hp, going out with a bang. I plan on buying another V6 AWD which lost 2hp, down to 303hp.

Could be... notable difference is the continual phasing over to electric only....

Has anyone seen new large scale electric plants being built, or higher capacity high-tension lines being strung to meet the new demand? Those projects talk a lot longer than 5 years even to roll out nation-wide.

Prediction: ending supplier relationships for gas engineered models metal body/interior parts (think canceling chip contracts), lack of electric grid support for all the charging coupled with continued lack of chip wafers, very few conventional cars being built. Used car prices skyrocket as nothing gas powered is hitting market. EVs sit parked due to regulated charging days and lack of infrastructure (gas lines on steroids).

I'd wondered for a while how this muscle car/truck war would come to an end. I realized when the automakers pledged to go electric how, now we're seeing it unfold already. It'll get worse before it gets better. 30 years from now (or whenever the grid problems and whatnot are sorted) most will look back and wonder how we could be so primitive. I won't be one of those people. Fact is our infrastructure is built to support the ICE, not the electric car. So again, it will get worse before it gets better. My solution? Reduce my dependence on the grid and city water/sewer. It only sucks when you depend on someone else for this stuff. I'd love to get into making my own hydrogen with an HHO generator and a compressor if nothing else as a science experiment.

And then there was a time that a lot of people thought the OBD1 CCC was newfangled high tech...and later a flip phone with a 1.5" diagonal screen that could take 720p pictures! Out of this world... 🙂 Today, people just ASSUME 100% of the population has a cell phone or interwebz.

And I also remember when electricity was less than 7.5 cents per kwh. That'll never happen again.

It's humorous to me that they'll build as many EV's as they can, yet I haven't seen ONE public charging station get installed around here. Maybe they have, but I haven't heard of one. They have a Tesla charging station across the river, but it's been there a little while. I've only seen at most 2 cars at one time using it. It's fine if you can hang out at the house and charge your car overnight, but if you travel, wtf? Oooh, look! Fast charging....as quick as 10 hours from empty to full! It makes no sense to make an EV that can go 450 miles on a single charge, if your destination is 1000 miles away. Yeah, you could get one of those fast chargers and get 100 miles in 35 minute charge...that's still going to take logistical planning and a system that can handle it. No spur of the moment trips with an EV. So even if you stop every 50 or 60 miles to "top off" the batteries all the time, you're still going to add several hours to a 1000 mile trip in an EV. I think a hybrid would be better for this transistional phase.

People that depend on their clapped out 2010 Ford Focus gas car to get to work everyday are going to have to squeak by and choose whether to fill their gas tanks, heating gas/oil tanks or fill their bellies. And they AIN'T going to be sitting in line waiting to buy an EV. Not going to do it. How's that $15/hour minimum wage working for you now?

It's sad to see the ICEs get killed because the car companies think they have to switch to EV immediately. This kind of crap should happen organically, not deadline forced.

I don't understand the problem? Other than the cost, you can still walk in and order them in whatever flavour you want. Except with a manual transmission - those might be permanently dead due to emissions.

There was a time when you couldn't do the same in the infancy of the ICE. We're just in a time now vs then where there is a way to drive yourself coast to coast so the replacement needs to do the same. I feel like the infrastructure will come too slowly, but will get there eventually. Just like when cars sucked @$$ for so long once emissions became a thing but now we can have our cake and eat it too.

They've been building one new plant down here now into decades, and it still isn't finished. It was to help keep up with existing load vs aging plants that need phase out.

It takes years just to do the environmental studies and impact statements with the commenting periods before you lift a single shovel in some ceremony. Then you probably get andowner disputes that force you through condemnation processes. Then it's years to build, inspect, safety, run trials...

It's like people magically think the electricity to run these things comes from nowhere. It's not build a station and juice will flow. The pool is finite.
