Where do people get these prices?

Where do you live OP? I know here in the South everyone wants way more than what the vehicle is actually worth. If it's a Z71 package Silverado, you can expect a asking price of at least $9-10K usually more, reguardless of year/ condition. Matter of facts, all trucks you can expect to pay for. V8 Camaro's and Mustangs fetch a pretty penny too. It's tough to find anything that's a good deal. Everyone thinks they have more then what they do.

Do they have Kelly Blue Book down there, lol? I'm in Pennsylvania, and off the top of my head, I know 88-98 Chevy 1500 4x4 trucks, which I deal with a lot, even flipped a few, go for $4000 in mint shape with new tires. Decent condition trucks go for $1750-2000. I refuse to pay anything more than blue book. For as fast as I go through vehicles, it isn't worth it to me. I'm usually driving a 'new' used vehicle every 6 months, so I don't bother paying more for a 'nice one'. I regularly see people ask up to $5-6000 but I've never heard of anyone getting that much. The downside of shopping for used cars here is there is no such thing as 'rust-free'. Heart of the rust belt, in PA most cars and almost all trucks that are older than a year or two have some sort of body rust. PennDOT's insane overconsumption of road salt and our horrible roads and their many potholes are the biggest contributors to this problem. Rust is a regular thing here especially on trucks and I honestly don't think most people are even bothered by it as long as it isn't frame rust. The silver lining in my situation though is body rust makes it easy to talk down prices on vehicles, so I can buy them cheap, then drive it for 6 months, fix it up a little, and sell it on for a profit and repeat the process.

Someone else brought it up earlier. It definitely has to do with the shows that are on tv these days. I was lucky to get my multicolored wagon with engine, trans and decent interior for $1100. Just surface rust, no rotting.

When people are putting stuff in their ads like "numbers matching" and similiar terms for cars that aren't valuable you know that they got that stuff from tv. I have seen that in ads for newer cars, maybe 5 years olds. I have even seen "numbers matching" in an ad for a roller chassis! What numbers are they matching up?

Lmao, that's pretty funny. BTW, anyone want to buy my ultra-rare, low mileage, numbers matching 1991 Mercury Topaz? It only needs just about everything! $7000 OBO or possibly trade for a 2014-2015 Ram 3500 Cummins 4x4 Dually if it's in good shape.

Haha, has it ever seen rain or snow? Does it have a fresh respray, original paint? I have heard that before, too.

Yeah it was also garage kept (which is actually worse for corrosion in the rust belt as warm garages reactivate the salt) and driven by an old lady.

I was just about to start a thread on this topic.

I want you guys to take a look at these two examples and tell me what's wrong! Look at the asking prices... WTF? The second rarest car on the G-body platform and the most commonly overpriced A-body on the market! One seller is only asking $7,900 for an all original 1984 Hurst/Olds but the other guy seems to think that his stock 1979 Malibu with a used 350 engine swap is worth $12,000????? These people are clueless! If you browse Craigslist often, then you see this a lot! Something is seriously wrong!!! Just saying! SMH!

the guy with the malibu was probably thinking his price was in line with the ones listed below in similiar items for sale. The one malibu didn't even have a running engine and he wanted a similiar price.

Oh no doubt it's entertaining. I love listening to these people try to blow smoke up my *ss about how their cars are so priceless and rare and are 'special editions' they made up.
