Where do people get these prices?

I'm pretty young myself, and I'm the same way. I live in the City of Pittsburgh, and there are so many wannabe rednecks who 'think' they live in the boonies (don't know why they'd want to) around here, every other truck is lifted with an eBay lift kit, has some stupid light bar on it, or has giant noisy oversized tires. Also they hack the exhausts off at the muffler to make them loud (I guess they like exhaust drone?). And all of these trucks are usually rusted out and falling apart. Money that should have been spent fixing bad paint, rusted rockers, cracked windshields, etc. was spent on eBay tail lights, light bars, lift kits, and tires. I'm perfectly content with my current bone-stock 99 Suburban with a 5.7 and 4x4. Stock tires, stock suspension and no rust. I can haul parts, fit the family and tow a car trailer and I'm not embarrassed to drive it to a nice restaurant.
I think that is from the healthy infusion of gas and oil well workers coming up to our area from Texas and other areas of the south. Everyone wants to have "rigs" like the southern guys. New guys spend the first few paychecks on anything with a diesel they can lift.

That is another thing I don't get. Why does everyone have to have a 1 ton diesel? People who don't even need trucks insist on buying giant diesels. Why? Do they like spending more on fuel, or having to pay for DEF? Or is it the $100 oil changes that draw them in? But at least they don't have to replace a few $3 spark plugs once every three years! Seriously though, it makes no sense to me. I had a social studies teacher in my senior year of high school who drove a '13 3500 Dodge with a Cummins in it. Why? I guess those social studies books and coffee cups are heavier than they look; nothing less than 900 lb ft of torque is up to the task of hauling them.

Nothing against diesel guys but it just doesn't make much sense to me. Back to overpriced cars on CL, here's a $12,000 Lincoln Mk VII-

When I got my company truck they gave me an F550 crew cab dually with a Powerstroke. I would have been fine with an F250 gas job. I've had all kinds of problems with the thing. 3 days after I got it, lost a glow plug on the expressway and shot oil out everywhere. Ruinned the motor. On the second one now. Lots of problems with the exhaust filter also.

Considering this was Lincoln's top of the line luxury "sports' car of that time and with having only 22,000 miles on it and being in pristine condition.
It was probably meticulously maintained but some old retired guy in Florida and even though I think the price is high (probably someone trying to flip it) I feel it is more fairly priced than most Gbodies I see on CL.

I drive a F650 for work, it is a 2011 and has been a good truck but the Diesel Exhaust Fluid is DEFinitely a pain.

Mine is 2008 and is pre-fluid but still clogs up then runs like sh*t and smokes like all hell. Our shop has replaced the filter and all the sensors but it still does it. I have a fair amount of tools I need for work, nothing a three quarter ton couldn't handle.

On vacation with in-laws, one of them had one of those nationwide classic car traders, and those prices in there were laughable. An 81 Monte with a mild 350 swap and minor mods was $18k!

I've got nothing against diesels, I'm actually a diesel mechanic, although I'm not working on pickups, I work on semis. I used to drive a pre-DEF F-550 dump truck around at one of my old jobs when I was landscaping, it was nice, and for the work we were doing, it was necessary. I just completely don't understand why so many people unnecessarily buy these giant 1-tons and probably overpay out the *ss compared to what a 1500 that would suit them just fine would cost.

I actually REALLY like the Mark VIIs, I'm not much of a Ford guy, but I'm a sucker for a clean Mark VII. It's a nice one, but I still wouldn't pay $12k for any Mark. They pretty much top out at $8 or 9,000.

Actually I would rather have a Mark 8 LSC, my mom had one and traded it in without telling me and bought a Jaguar that she ended up having multiple issues with.(rearend went out a 20,000 miles, etc.)
