Greetings Doug & all; I'll assume your Holley has Vacuum secondary's? And that's Great as it's on the large (CFM) side of optimum for a 383. DoNOT buy a bigger carb! But keep in mind that GM put 780 Holley's on 302's, 350's, 396's 402's, 427's & 454's. Did I forget any? My point is ya have a great carb just be patient find another re-builder, Get a book or two, do it yourself, you'll be proud of yourself. Ask us questions, we'll help. And Quick Fuel owned by Holley has any & every up grade your brain & pocket book can handle.
But the first question we have is what intake manifold - inlet are ya runnin'? And tell us compression & cam specs. Then us ole' car nuts can offer a suggested starting place for jetting & PV.
Good luck, Ole' Bob.

15-20 years sitting with crappy ethanol type gas will destroy any carburetor. So take that into account before you wholesale write off the Holley design.

If you can't get your carb sorted out, don't buy an Edelbrock, many have had issues with them. You basically have a Street Demon in 625 or 750 cfm for a square bore intake, non Holley style. It is basically an improved 3 barrel version of the old Carter Thermoquad, most who have bought them, like them. A Qjet custom tuned is good but would need an adapter on square bore intake. Everyone loves the Holley style Quick Fuel carbs, a 750 cfm Slayer is a good carb for the money.

Qjet is the best carb in my opinion if you can get it set up right. You could get Cliff Ruggles how to modify and rebuild quadrajet book. I used it on my quadrajet. Drilled all .the holes in the body bigger as book describes. Start small you can always go bigger Took some testing to get metering rods and jets right and secondaries rods and to open at the right time. But once you get it to work right it really wakes the engine up. Holleys are good carbs to. I would even take apart and clean a new one if you get it. I've seen where there is junk in them even brand new. I would agree with other people and stay away from edelbrock i have also never had luck with them.

I hate carbs lol.

It's mostly because I have no idea what I'm doing. I just bought a brand new Summit 750 and it was running fine until I put it in drive, then it flooded. I'm lost, but I also didn't come on here and ask for help so I'm not complaining too much.

I'm going Holley Sniper EFI, which I should have done in the beginning. My car is at the body shop now so I haven't thought much about it.

The older Holley 750 on my fresh built 383 stroker is junk. What would be the best non Holley carb to replace it with? The engine is supposed to be able to put out 500 hp. I don’t want to go to big, but I want one to handle power. I’ve been told everything Edelbrock 650 to 800. The car won’t be a racer just a street bruiser.
I have a Q-Jet from Sean Murphy Induction, worked great with very little adjustment right out of the box.. It was on my 403 Olds that ran in the low 12s on motor only.
