Hoping to get some help in sorting out my gear ratio, have a stock monte carlo from 1979, 305 stock engine running on LPG, th200 and i dont know what ratio the diff has. (GM 7.5" 10 bolt)
Present diff has a nasty "boink" noise know and then, and was reason for me to buy a spare diff, the spare diff is getting an overhaul from me with fresh bearings and seals, so when i get my MC on the 4 post i can swap the rear axle.
I have also bought an TH2004R which i am going to swap with the present TH200.
The spare diff says on the ring gear 15-41 if i am correct thats a 2.73 ratio
If i want to change the ratio is have a choice in these ratio's (according to rockauto)
2.73
3.08
3.23
3.42
3.73
3.9
4.11
4.56
At 9 dollars the gallon over here, a little fuel efficiency would be very nice, can someone explain what happens when i change my ratio to (example) 3.42.
I am dutch so its a PITA to convert from inch to metric and vice versa so please keep the answers as simple as possible
