Hey all,

I am curious what people are using for ignition wire looms and which wires people are using? I noticed when I was under the car a couple of my wires have gotten too close to my headers, as they are currently routed under the headers.

I have Vortec Heads, Center-bolt valve covers. I was thinking I might want to start routing them up over the valve covers, but I need to find a loom that bolts to center bolt valve covers, doesnt block the oil fill cap, etc.

What wires should I be using to get the correct fit on this? How hard are plug wires to make if you're doing it yourself to get a more exact fit?

( nothing fancy here ) I use the off the shelf MSD Street fire wires. They are separated by plastic 2 sided clips in pairs then in 4's closer to the cap. Couple black zip ties to keep them off the headers and its done

I use the stock wire routing clips. I have the vortec heads on my one engine, and the OEM clips work perfect with MSD cut to fit wires.

This is not my engine, but this is exactly what I use, the wire clips are OEM. I like them since there are holes already in the heads for them, and they aren't all big and hokey.

Stock clips doesnt look too bad. Do you run headers? Have any issues with heat using stock? Is there any rhyme or reason to buying a set of pre-assembled wires, as to knowing whether they will fit nice, and not have a bunch of extra wire, or be so tight you can barely get it?

Yes, I use headers. Never had a problem with heat on them using that stock wire holders. I also don't use the preassembled wires, they never seem to "fit" right, I always use the cut to fit.

I prefer the pre-cut wires. I have done the cut to length method and don't fit they fit any better or worse ( I am also getting lazy ). Using the stock clips like liquid pointed out it is a much neater and nicer looking setup though. I use the clamp style separators like in the link below on the monte ( just because I was given a handful from a friend ). The rest of my rigs all use the ziptie method GP pointed out.

#5 boot on the headers I use is close so I swap that wire out every couple years.

I like to use cut to fit wires on my Cutlass. It's easy to do and you get each wire the length you want for the routing you want. Every pre made set that I've ever bought for a small block chevy has that one wire(I usually use it on #5 cylinder) that is 6 inches longer than needed..
