Which posi carrier is better?

which one do you have now, is it an Auburn or an Eaton?. It's probably an Eaton in there now and the Eatons are more preferred cause they are rebuildable and you can get different types of clutch packs but for the 8.5 it's hard to find them. There are guys building the clutch packs and you can get clutches built with different materials depending on what your are looking for, I know Khan has an 8.5 Eaton and he was looking for clutch packs so you might want to contact him and see what he found.

The Auburn posi is approximately 15 years old and now that you bring up the rebuilding aspect it jogged my memory. I'm not sure if it is the pro or what they sold below that at the time but I don't think it can be rebuilt. The Auburn is in the car now and has worked flawlessly but I have another complete rear with a factory posi that I might put disk brakes on. Just wondering if it would be worth the effort to swap them out.

To swap out a rear end isn't that hard unless the bolts are rusted in place in the bushings. Clamp off the flex line so the brake fluid won't drain and leave the drive shaft in the transmission.

I've swapped rear ends out before but what I was referring to was swapping out the carriers which I have also done before. Just curious about opinions on what the better posi carrier is.

if you ask me both carriers are the same. Auburn just renamed the carriers and the newer ones are named pro for marketing purposes

My money is on Eaton.
