Which to choose? 200r4/TH350/700r4

why did you have to move the crossmember back 6 inches? Did it not come with a 200-R4 stock?

The driveshaft is the same, but the transmission crossmember is unique to the TH 200 4R. You will need the crossmember and mount to make it fit. As for which I would choose, I would go with the TH 200 4R without hesitation. Better ratio spread and a steeper overdrive make it a no brainer. As for a torque converter, stock should be fine with the intake and heads you are running. The SP2P is not a great high RPM intake, so there is no real advantage to a high stall converter. For gears, 4.11's are just plain silly. I would not go above a 3.73 at most and preferably no higher than a 3.42. Why? Well, you have a street car with a torque engine that will be out of breath by 4,500 RPM. There is no need to run 4.11's. All you will do is waste gas and shorten the life of the drivetrain. However, if you want to get more performance out of that trans and engine, try a higher shift point governor in it. The stock WOT upshift in a pedestrian TH 200 4R is only around 3,000 RPM. The MCSS, etc. all got a 4500-5,000 RPM upshift governor instead. Add that, a good shift kit, and a trans cooler for the best results.

thanks for the advice. The transmission in it already is a 200-4R, so the crossmember will fit.

Here's something you may know about. When cold the engine stumbles off the line just briefly. It idles fine and everything, and runs strong after, just for a brief moment it stumbles. Any ideas?

That is typical of a carbureted car when it is cold. I typically let mine warm up for a few minutes before driving it, or else it is not really drivable. I may be wrong, but I am thinking you are used to driving cars with EFI. Those cars are ready to go right away because of how EFI compensates for engine temperature. However, if I am wrong and this is a recent phenomenon, I would check the condition of the ignition components. An old set of plug wires, or cap and rotor could also cause this issue to crop up.

Im no wizard, but I think there must be 2 lengths of 200r4's I remember doing the TH350 change to 200R4 in my 82 Caballero before I parked it and the cross member fit with no modificatio but I had to "modify" the drive shaft to fit. It was shortened just a tad. Thats what I remember about doing that change. the donor transmission was out of a 4 Dr 86 Pontiac Parriesian? Parrissian?Per...the whatever. Also they use a different means of shift control I believe the 350 was vacuum modulated whereas the 200r4 is electronic.

Forget what I said last it turned out I shoved a 700r4 in there. Also I just recently learned theres a TH350C. So much to learn So little shop space
