I've seen quite a few elkys and wagons pulling boats around here..I've got a bumper hitch for a cutlass bumper if anyone is in need of one.

lol, Thanks for the insights....

Ribbedroof, That's a very good point I had not thought about, even if I make it safe to haul heavier loads, the manufacturers numbers would still leagally stand, could get me in a world of trouble if involved in an accident.

I once towed a broken down Camaro from Jersey to NY with a Malibu wagon and a dolly. What shitty experience. Forward was a chore and reverse was a nightmare. I thought the frame was going to rip out from under the car backing into a driveway.

I pulled a Fox body from landsdale PA to Williamsport PA and a mid 80s bmw from NJ to Williamsport with my 91 S10. 2wd 4.3/700r4 and 3.42 gears. i was using tow dollys but it pulled and stopped like a champ.

that would be sweet to make a tow rig out of a gbody wagon or something. if i was going down that route and had the money to do it id probably use an air bag setup, like something from a trailblazer or one of the newer half tons, or maybe leaf springs but i dont know how easily that could be done. for the drivetrain, well, hate all you want but a 4BT cummins would be perfect for that application. as much torque as a well built small block, more than twice the fuel economy, and the dead on reliability of a cummins. again, HATE ME! lol. for the trans, maybe a 4l80 if i could get it to bolt up to the cummins, and an 8.5 or a ford 9in to go behind it all. even though you wouldnt be using all gm stuff, it would be a badass tow rig that could get most of anything done.

When I dolly towed the Eagle, I attempted backing into the driveway, saw dolly/car/trucks reaction, then decided, I'll risk unloading roadside, vs damaging borrowed equippment, lol.

I dont tow but I have towed if that makes any sense. I build an air compressor/generator enclosure for the service truck during a metals class this fall at my High School. Had a snowmobile trailer laying out at the farm and I needed to get it home so I just used my cutlass since it had a hitch since 1981 and Ive owned the car for 3 years and havent used it. Only pulled it a block and a half so its not all that impressive but at least I can say I used it. Made the back squat since the thing weighed 600lbs and the car has V6 springs.
