17, almost 18 years old
freshman at RIT in Rochester NY
my major is mechanical engineering with an automotive specialty
What is it? Everyone is going for a mechanical engineering degree... I must have missed the memo!

It' s really the degree to get if you like designing automotive systems and dealing with the complex interactions of a number of variables. I like the idea of balancing the needs of weight, handling, cost, braking and fuel economy in one cohesive package. Then again, I may try to work in the performance parts industry instead as there are no major design centers in Florida, so I may see if I can just work in the aftermarket instead.

Im not going to school (Im 43 years old and run a small trucking biz) But one of our pals from our h.s. gang Is a mechanical engineer who has a GN and the baddest 67 firebird convertable you will find (455 EFI 700 hp on the dyno before he got the correct injectors)
He worked his way into a PHD courtesy of a gov't job that payed his way and he is married to another PHD.
There might be something to that further education thing!

Yeah, I figured I am 33, unmarried, no kids, low bills and a crappy job, so why not try for something I have always wanted to do? I know I will not be likely to go anywhere in life without a better education. Plus, I have an IQ in the 140-150 range and I deliver pizza for a living.... not exactly living up to my potential!

Worked in the Personal Security field for a while, got bored and became a freelance writer. Got tired of being a happy/poor guy, so went back to school and am pursuing a degree in Criminal Justice so I can work for Uncle Sugar or Interpol. I'm 35.

Brougham, if you have a 140-150 IQ, you probably just haven't found anything that's enough to challenge you yet. Until now, lets hope.
Good luck.

I will be taking classes this fall to get my GED. well that is if there is still an openeing in december. Then i will be taking some business management classes after that. I am sick and tired of making some a$$hole millions. I am 25

Any ME's struggling? I graduated 14th in a class of about 600 and college is just killing me. I think the main reason is i want to do something with cars and the only thing school realted i have done is take apart a honda lawn mower engine and learn how to use a mill/laythe. But our teacher doesnt know how to work one so i had to show him. Kinda dissapointing and im at the point where im gonna switch into our local technical school high performance automotive technology/engineering. ME is not even close to what people made it sound like to me

Yea, I attempted EE last year but it really didn't seem like it was heading where I wanted it to go. I ended up transferring to ME at a different school, and so far, it's been a lot better. Our Formula SAE team might be able to pull it off this time.
