I was at a small meet today and saw a Regal T Type. Looked nice and very original. I walk up to the owner and ask if he has extra parts etc. He starts off about how his car is an original has 20k miles and then he goes "it's stock" I tell him "it's nice "but all of a sudden he tries to Bluff and goes "nah just kidding its got 800hp, it's worked, I never let anyone look under the hood, blah blah"
So I go "oh yea well how you putting all that power onto the ground with those small tires, your frames not even notched" keep in mind I saw his car stroll in, and I've heard dodge caravans with more exhaust tone to it. He avoids the question and splits. Lol you can't lie to a g body guy who knows ins and outs about it. I don't get why people feel like they need to lie about whats under the hood. It's not impressive. Owners makes 75% of the cars character in a sense...

This is why I seldom engage the owners of cars at shows in conversation.
Yea lesson learned. I went to go talk and make a friend but the conversation was very demeaning. Lol. It isn't the first time either. But I've also made good friends with someone with a g body by talking about cars. So you never know.

Got a 350lb bearded fat guy working at my local advanced. Go in for wipers for my wife's 04 jeep grandcherokee Limited. Guy tells me it's a hell of a machine but doesn't handle well with a chuckle. We owned ours since 07 never had an issue so like a dumbass I asked. "Well I was drunk running from the police doing 145 and lost it". Instant annoyance migraine and of course your already fell for the ear rapist trap. So your stuck until he's finished.

Had him again for a tail light on my buds 84 Firebird . didn't want him nailed in town. Buddy goes to ring up.....84....yeah had a brand new factory 84 Firebird SS you know had the rare big block. Yeah had it up to 160!!. Instant nose bleed. Just want to repeatedly punch these people in the nutz. Lol

I love those kind of people. They make it possible for great jokes later amongst actual gearheads.

I might tell a white lie or two...
"What's it got under the hood?" *referring to 429 Thunderbird*
"Oh, just a 302 with a cam and exhaust."
You'd be amazed at the lack of knowledge amoungst the younguns about these cars.

My dad used to fool people in his 1981 Grand prix (former diesel car) that had a worn out, but strong running mid 70s Stock Olds 350 with a Q-jet and dual exhaust, highway gear peg leg rear and a 200 metric. The car could handily beat/keep up with stockish IROC camaros with the "H/O" 305. And it started to pull on a not quite dialed in 67 malibu with a worked over big block. This is back in the late 90s. People were convinced it was hopped up or a 455 until he pops the hood and there is a grungy derpy little 350 Olds.

I could go on for days, just about people I work with. One kid brought his dad's 32 Ford 5 window to an off-site training we had, claimed it was his. He said it has 700hp and has a custom trans with titanium gears. I googled the gears and they would never work. I checked it out and heard it on start-up when he was heading home. Garden variety sbc with stock heads, block hugger headers, single edelbrock carb, no lope at all, and some chrome dress up sh*t. Another guy told us about his Jeep "rock crawler". His daily broke down and he brought it. Jeep Patriot with BFG all terrains that were too big and rubbed. I guess you could crawl over gravel and that counts.

Well, "pull" is a strong word, more like "catch up to". Just a half mile at most stretch of backroad in Van Meter Iowa in the 90s. I was but a fetus, but that's how they say it went down. They had to stop going because a built 500hp T Type squared up against that 67 malibu, which later had a 502 after dad raced, they blasted past my mom and I apparently kicked really hard. It was just a sh*t ton of people out in Van Meter on an old highway standing like two feet from 600hp metal monsters. Ah, I wish I could've seen it. Can't to that sh*t now. Too many cameras.
