Because they have a disease like an alcoholic. I get the opposite, people think I'm lying when they ask how fast it runs.

I was in Tech school with a kid who claimed to have bought a 49 Corvette for $400 because the body had a lot of rust, and the guy threw in the original big block for another $200 !!! This is the kid that spent $34000 on school and six months later was working at Mcdonalds!
:bs::wtf::blam::rofl:

Quite a few years ago in my old neighborhood this guy had a gbody cutlass and said he put a older Olds 442 engine in his gbody cutlass. I was with my friend who asked him what year 442 it was from and if it was the 455 or 350 olds. He said there was no such thing and that is was a 442 engine. My friend and I then said to him the 442 was an option that came with a 350 or 455 and that had a W-30 or W-31 etc. and that he would be able to tell if he knew this info.

The guy was getting upset and said we didn't know anything and that the engine size was a 442 and that he knows blah blah blah. I had to pull my friend away because he was getting upset that the guy was getting all crazy about what he thought he knew.

He was supposed to be someone who knew his stuff. He didn't know to much the more you spoke to him and asked him stuff the taller the boots you needed to keep the crap off of you.

Well truth be told I occasionally lie about my Cutlass.

Such as "I park all the way down there and push the car around to exercise trust me reverse works great".

Or " Oh that sea of transmission and engine oil? , yea it was there when I pulled in".

No I don't own the multi colored Cutlass that was blasting Midnight rider and belching smoke in the parking lot! Christ I have more dignity than that. Lmfao

Before I build my current 565 big block it was previously a 555 big block with .040 less bore and I would go to car shows and constantly get people that would not get it when I would tell the engine size and they would try to correct me and say "you mean 455" and I would respond with no it's 555 and there is not a single GM part on it, which apparently just confuses them more.
I am sure some thought I was lying.

Geez guys I'm dying of laughter here!!! I've pulled the "oh it's just a v6 with exhaust leak" at stop lights before just to mess with guys who think their ricers or bone stock irocs are fast....hard to deny a healthy sbc with cam thumping especially when the powerband came in and screamed away from the comp!
Best time when i had just done the holley efi and went to a local show....guy walked up with his son trying to sound smart says "look at that supercharger!" Took everything i had to keep from busting a gut and calling him out in front of his teenage kid!

Kinda weird that I haven't found this to be a huge problem at least at car shows and meets I've gone to. But I am approaching 60 and generally interact with an older crowd so perhaps we are all beyond the dick measuring phase of life??

That said, though I didn't really set out to build one, I ended up with a 442CI Olds BB in my '87 that is an.080 over 455 block with an Olds 425 crank and rods in it. Why? Why not?

Or, I'm a liar. You decide. But, if you think that, I have all the intimate what, where, when, why, and how details if you want them and please let me know when you are in the central Ks area and I'll gladly pop my hood and take you for a ride . . .
