Why is G-Body sheet metal so hard to come by?

at this time the cars are still pretty plentiful and have not acheived the collector status of the 50's and 60's cars. Seems that they are starting to reproduce some of the parts but it would still be cheaper just to find what you need by purchasing a complete parts car.

I myself have been eyeing up a V6 Monte lately with no options ( a neighbor of my aunts ) with a straight body and faded paint just for the clean body parts. I bet if I offered the owner $200.00 he would jump at it.

Don't wait too long. I've lost goods deals by waiting a day or two too long.

Not to change the subject but say you got Fiberglass hood, fenders, bumpers, doors and trunk lid on a 1982 Regal. How much weight would you cut?

I might make my car for the track with occasional street use in the summer with a roll cage and side bars if I went fiberglass doors.

Yeah the grand prix is the redheaded step child there is almost none aftermarket for them not then white face gauges.

Complete doors are now available for Malibu/ Le Mans coupes and El Caminos. It's Sherman and Associates that is making them. I saw it in Hot Rod this month. The price is not cheap though, $512 ea.

i have an 85 monte carlo ss. i checked local junk yards, the only 3 montes i found have the same rust in the same place, between the door hinge and back tire. i found some panels at goodmarkindustries.com for 150 per side. but shipping was 150 too... dixiemontecarlo.com has panels too but the prices at goodmark seem better. my doors arent too bad. surface rust mostly. but i gotta get this done before i can paint...

My opinion is these cars are in the middle stages, they're not quite classics but then they're not at all new. Like someone else said, there's a ton of these cars sitting in junkyards in certain areas of the country (just not where I am)

Unfortunately, most of the yards around here crush 'em, as not many people are looking for those parts and they need to make room for newer vehicles. I can't tell you how many times I've been told "We used to have one of those, but we sent it to the crusher last month." 🙁

I'm at the point where I'm ready to stock up on parts cars for all my projects. If I can find any.
